@SoofDad , thank you! Congrats to your daughter. what’s her major? I did summer research in the local university which was amazing. I visited UMD and met admissions counc and it was fantastic. Hope the research also will help me. I am in a dilemma. I am more interested in Electrical engineering but not very sure about how much it’s better at UMD. I am NJ in state and got into Rutgers CS and EE. But chose CS at UMD as it is very good program. I am not very sure $30k at rutgers vs $50k at UMD (:
My daughter (OSS CA) was accepted into spring semester. Is the Freshman Connection by invitation only? She was accepted into her major that is a LEP so I am assuming they will let her be part of the Freshman Connection. She doesn’t want to wait until January to attend college.
@ruth99 - I believe that Freshman Connection is offered to all students who got a Spring Semester decision. It is first come, first - serve, so I would recommend enrolling early. I think FC is a great option
If you were denied what are the chances to appeal? My son has his heart set on UMD and didn’t get in. He got straight A’s first two marking periods. Should we send those grades in and write a letter “begging” to re-evaluate his application? Or is a no…a flat out No and goodbye?
My son was also admitted for January 2020 and we are going to look into the freshman connection. Other than the timing of classes and less options, how is it any different than being a freshman in the fall?
@cshigh - Merit scholarships will be out in a few weeks. That should help you in making a final decision
I just read what Freshman Connection is about. Any spring admitted student can be part of that program. The classes are late afternoon only. The only other thing is that FC students are fourth in line to pick classes for the spring semester (behind fall admit students). Everything else is the same. That sounds like a great program that they offer. It lets the students be a student in fall…dorm, clubs, etc. so they don’t miss out on anything.
@01hockeymom no, surprisingly UMD accepts appeals. however, you would have to supply really great recent grades (which I see he has) and some new achievements to be considered. appeals are more for people who think they have something new that may positively impact their academic profile, not to “beg” for another outcome.
@ruth59 - There is another poster on here @UMDgirl23 who did FC this past semester and she may be able to answer any specific questions that you may have.

congrats to all who got accepted. all the best to those who are still waiting for results.
D got accepted. OOS.
can someone let me know if filling out Honors College Preference Form binding?
since being OOS, any scholarship will be helpful.
Does choosing any particular honors program have more scholarship opportunity?
@learning19 - As I recall, you get to make a first choice and a second choice. A student can always drop out of the Honors college or transfer into University Honors, which is the most flexible of the Honors Programs
@learning19 choosing a particular honors program does not confer more scholarship opportunities.
Accepted OOS into Computer Science Honors
SAT: 1510 (720 English 790 Math)

Thank you @adlgel and @SoofDad for your replies.
Does filling honors college form mean that it is like accepting college admission? (binding?)
Does getting into the honors college mean that you are most likely going to get a merit award?
@learning19 - Filling out the Honors form is NOT binding and does NOT constitute accepting admission
@froshusa - Getting into the Honors college is no guarantee of a merit award.

I got accepted for spring 2020 and am looking into freshman connection, however it says I am a Letters and Sciences major instead of my intended major which was journalism.
Knowing that journalism is a LEP does that mean I did not get into the Journalism program? If not can I reapply after I take the prereq classes for the major?
Someone please help any info is helpful!
