University of Maryland - College Park EA Class of 2023

@umd080612 Because Journalism is such a popular major, UMD can only accept a certain amount of students. Still they feel that you are a great fit for UMD. Letters and Sciences means that you are considered a student with no major/undecided. You can later reapply to the Journalism School when you have completed the gateway class requirements for the Journalism major. Here is the link for more info on reapplying to Journalism major at UMD. https://lep.umd.edu/jour-lep.pdf

@upneetsb thank you for the info! So just because I am not listed as a Journalism major that doesn’t mean I was denied? The link says I can only apply once so my initial application to the college with journalism as the intended major doesn’t count as applying to the college?

@umd080612 yes. you are still accepted to UMD and you have once chance while at UMD to reapply to the Journalism School. Usually people get the required classes completed within the first semester. Of course some people take a little longer.

@upneetsb thank you so much! I was so worried but thats relieving to know I can reapply. Have a great night!

“Congratulations! I am thrilled to offer you admission to the University of Maryland (UMD) and to Carillon Communities for the Fall 2019 semester. You should be pleased to know that you were selected from among a highly talented group of applicants.”

Forgive me - what is “Carillon Communities”

Major: Engineering: Aerospace* (09020)
Advising College: The A. James Clark School of Engineering
Maryland Resident (Tuition Purposes): N
What does the * mean?

@cshigh This is good info. Thanks.

Not sure why the decision is not released in my case. I had called and they confirmed that they have everything.

I will email them or call them.
This lack decision was a huge unwanted surprise.

DD accepted!
OOS from NJ
Animal science/prevet
4.1 uw GPA, 1290 sat
Lots of extracurriculars: Varsity sports, music, work at vet hospital, church, etc.
She’s so happy!
Carillon communities too. Must look that up…

My D also doesn’t have a decision. She submitted her app on 10/29, but it shows her transcript wasn’t received until 12/6. Didn’t realize that until tonight. Does that put her in the RD round? Doesn’t seem fair if that is the case, since that was not in her control. She has emailed her GC and plans to contact UMD on Monday.

Correction: 4.1 weighted GPA

MrProton2023 same here too. My checklist all has the right dates. Pls update if you hear back

No decision yet.
Application and all materials submitted before Nov 1 deadline. Application status is completed Nov 3.
Don’t know why decision is not there. OOS.

Does anyone know if there is a process to “appeal” not getting into carillon/scholars/honors?

Accepted CS (Placed into Spring 2020 for some reason)
SAT: 1470
GPA: 3.3UW 4.1W

Would’ve been my top choice but I can’t enter Fall 2019… interesting

Daughter Accepted
OOS
Letters & Sciences

Congrats to everyone accepted!
@fiidad I also got a major of Letters and Sciences, but isn’t that the advising college? Does it mean that we are undecided?

@studentin2023 - You can start in the Fall if you enroll in Freshman Connection

@Nicole02 and @fiidad Letters and Sciences means that you either applied Undecided or you applied to a LEP and were not admitted to the LEP. In that case you can do an internal transfer

Has anyone received a response regarding Smith?

What type of response? I know several people who were admitted to Smith.
