That answers my question. We’re still seeing that the application was accepted but nothing else. We were wondering if the decisions from Smith were slow coming out.
I see a few have the same question I do. Does anyone know what the asterisk means after the intended major? Seems odd to have an asterisk without a corresponding notation anywhere on the letter?
My son got the same letter as the poster above about getting into Carrilion Communities-very confusing. Looking forward to getting more info!

I was admitted for spring semester
kinda disappointed
@TerpAlum At the very bottom of the letter it lists the advising college. If it’s Smith you’re in.
@MimiCat I couldn’t find *with my accepted major. The letter should have clearly told on accepted major or if not alternate choice clearly. I think they tried to be diplomatic
Even in letter to me it simply says we are thrilled about offering admission. Not mentioning college and branch. It only lists at the end major and college without any words accepted! I only assume it’s major I got into as I applied that as primary major.
UMD has been using the same letter format for years now. The “Advising College” line indicates if you got into your desired major or not
@SoofDad Thanks for the info. She wants to major in business and I see it’s a LEP. @Nicole02 Here’s the LEP programs page: https://www.admissions.umd.edu/explore/limited-enrollment-programs
Was there ever any clarity on what the asterisk “” next to one’s major means? My son’s reads Major: Business: Accounting (0503A)
@fiidad - I want to add one caveat. Internal Transfers into most LEPs are not a problem, except for Smith. Smith tends to be as competitive for transfer as it is for direct admission. I say this based on what I have read on this forum over the past several years.
Does anyone know anything about freshman connection for spring admits? From what I’ve read on UMD’s website it seems like the only difference between a freshman connection student and a fall admit is that we would take afternoon classes for the first three months of school. If anyone was a part of freshman connection I would love to hear what you thought about your experience.
@MimiCat Here’s the website for Carillon Communities. https://www.carillon.umd.edu/
@SoofDad That’s good to know. After our visit last summer UMD has been high on our list. She’s been accepted into the business schools at Rutgers, MSU & Pitt. We’ll need to do some research on this before making our final decision. Again, thanks for the info!
@rlc31103 - There is another poster on here @UMDgirl23 who did FC this past semester and she may be able to answer any specific questions that you may have. There are several past threads on this forum about FC
Got accepted into the honors college! Big relief.
@studentin2023 can you confirm you got admitted directly into the computer science program?
A HS friend just went through FC this year and his two criticisms were that he couldn’t participate in the club sports because they meet at that time (late afternoon) and he didn’t feel like he got the same advising services that regular admit students got. However, he absolutely loves the school and is very happy with his decision to do it and is starting spring semester like everyone else at UMD.
