@marcymar That’s unfortunate. I’d be more inclined to believe that they did receive it. And then one of the two following things happened:
1.) this physically mailed transcript didn’t get tied to any electronic file
2.) an electronic file for your daughter was created when this transcript was received but then a separate electronic file for your daughter was created when her Coalition app was received and the two electronic files were never linked.
@md2384 “It would be such setback to invest 3 semesters into a school and then not be able to keep going with your plan.”
Well, to be fair, a direct admit to business could also invest 3 semesters and not be able to keep going with the plan because there is a review process that occurs at 45 credits that could result in dismissal from the business major:
“Freshman Direct Admits: All students accepted directly as freshmen into the Smith School must complete a series of gateway courses and submit to a review at 45 credits to determine continuing eligibility. Gateway courses include:
• Completion of BMGT 220 and 2301, or 2312 (or equivalent) with a minimum grade of C-
• Completion of MATH 120 (formerly MATH 220), 130 or 140 with a minimum grade of C-
1The following courses are approved substitutes for BMGT230: BIOM301, CCJS200, ECON230, ECON321, EDMS451, GEOG306, INST314, PSYC200, and SOCY201.
2 The following courses are approved substitutes for BMGT231: ENCE302, ENEE324, ENME392, or STAT400
A minimum grade point average of 2.0 in all courses is required at the 45-credit review.”
“Students who are directly admitted and fail to meet the performance review criteria will be dismissed from the major and may not reapply.”
@maryversity thanks. I have read that form over and over. Yes, I did see that for those admitted directly into smith, but if I am understanding the info correctly it appears they only need a 2.0 at the time of review. Unless there is further review that is not noted on the lep info document, a 2.0 is a much easier to obtain than a 3.8.
D will essential need straight a’s since an A- is a 3.7 and a B + is a 3.3
Well she’d need essentially straight As for an auto-admit. What is unknown is how competitive the admission process is for folks who don’t get that 3.8 for the auto-admit. So yes, attending Maryland without a direct admit to the business school is a bit of a risk. If she has direct admits to other colleges that tick all of her boxes then they may be a better option.
@adlgel …yup, those are all the things we are weighing. We are instate so this is the best for school for the money. There r other options. Wish I knew the acceptance rate percentage for transfers. We just want to know what she is up against before making a final choice

Essay: About my adoption and my experience with Adopteen
Freshman connection - does anyone know if it’s first come first serve? Do they “fill up” if my daughter waits until April to commit? Also seems a lot of OOS got selected for freshman connection/spring admit. Is that what others are seeing?
@berk2023 Freshman Connection is first come. It does fill up. Registration opens on March 1. Unfortunately if you wait until April to commit, all FC spots may be gone.
Regarding OOS and FC, I don’t know if that’s true…maybe. I was under the assumption that ‘lower stat’ kids (my kid) were pushed to Spring because their stats don’t get included in ‘admissions stats’ for the incoming class. Although my kid is OOS.
There is usually an information session for the Scholars Program at the Admitted Students Day. Be prepared to divide and conquer if this is your first time as some sessions overlap and you have to choose. Much of the information is repeated at Orientation so choose sessions on Admitted Student’s Day that will directly affect your decision.
For those following the “no decision” saga, my D’s summer abroad program emailed her transcript to UMD yesterday and she was admitted one hour later! I think UMD may have simultaneously found the one that was sent in September or that there was a second account set up, like @adlgel said. Anyway, it was clearly a clerical error on their part and they fixed the problem. My D was very timely and professional in her email conversation with the admissions officer and that always helps. A good lesson for a teenager: turn your stress in to action.

So . . . . are Early Action decisions out? I thought my application made the cut-off for Early Action, but I have not received an email with UMD’s decision. I applied to the Communications School. Anyone who applied to the same received a decision yet?
