Hey guys, I am applying for the Spring of 2018 as a transfer student from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
This is a discussion for people in that same boat and all that good stuff
Hi, I just submitted my application 2 weeks ago to the Smith School at College Park. I transfer from a MD state community college.
Chance me, please?
Stats:
School: Highline Community College (Washington State)
College GPA: 3.96
Major: Biology
Intended Major at UMD: General Biology
PTK member (not even sure if that will help me)
I have taken Chem and Bio series. For Math, I only took PreCalculus I (I did not take the PreCalc II, which is a prereq for Calculus in Washington)
I do not have SAT/ACT since I have more than 30 credits (I have 80 cc credits) and I graduated from high school in different country.
I am an Out-of-State transfer applicant. I just moved in to Maryland last first week of July.
EC: I do not have any extracurricular activities and/or job experiences because of personal reasons(not medical), making me just stay at home after school. But now I am motivated to do things related to medical field.
Awards: Outstanding Performance in Biology (I’m not sure how and why the science department selected me to receive that award among my other classmates)
I plan to complete my application for Spring 2018 on August 1 (last day for priority consideration) and I worry that I have a little chance of getting accepted since they prioritize Maryland residents coming from Maryland community college
I have called them a couple of times, and it sounds to me that the way they evaluate transfer students is a bit more relaxed. At least I got that vibe when I talked to them.
I am from Tennessee, transferring from University of Tennessee Knoxville.
Current Major: Aerospace Engineering
Intended Major: Aerospace Engineering
Current GPA 3.68,
Current Degree: Associate’s in Science
Awards: Dean’s List Spring 2016, Fall 2016, and likely Summer 17 as well.
Hispanic Scholarship Fund Scholar
Internships: REU at UNO Summer 2010,NASA GSFC Spring 2017, and upcoming Fall 2017
EC: None
Work: Federal Work Study position at the registrar’s office
No SAT/ACT either due to over 100 college credits, more than 30 in major.
Math: Pre-Cal,Cal I,II,III, Diff Eq, Matrix Algebra
Wow, you guys make my credentials look laughable.
I’m really anxious about getting accepted. I recently separated with an honorable discharge from the United States Navy in October 2016 and I’m currently in Montgomery College.
Current GPA: 3.68
I submitted my application with only 13 credits, do they typically look for applicants with more credits? I have 19 credits now but the grades for the other 6 credits were posted after the priority deadline for UMCP.
I took Pre-Calculus this past Summer semester and received an A for the course. Hopefully they put that into consideration?
Best of luck to you guys!
@Carlos303 I also separated from the Navy, but December 2015. I have been doing school and internships since then.
I think you will get in. What major are you applying for? I just moved from Tennessee to Silver Spring, MD 4 weeks ago. Anyways, best of luck.
I’ve been really interested in transferring to Maryland since it’s not too far from home and it’s very nice. i just have two questions I was wondering if you guys could answer.
1.) Are transfer students treated as poorly as people say?
2.) Is Greek life that important to your social life?
@suavement7 I have not been treated poorly idk where you heard that. They included the transfers in a lot of activities the first weekend to make everybody feel welcome. This is my first semester here.
Also no greek life isn’t important as long as you join clubs and other activities it won’t be hard to make friends.
That’s awesome, @ChalatecoSV. What was your rate and where were you stationed?
My major is Computer Engineering, so we’ll see what their decision is in mid-October.
Hopefully mid October means mid October. seems like in the past they’ve said mid October or mid April (for fall) and it’s been a week or so later than what I would have considered the middle of the month.
@Carlos303 Aviation Structural Mechanic (AM2) and Norfolk NAS for the eintirety of my stay in the Navy.
Yep the date is approaching fast, I also hope the deliver the decisions by true mid October
@ChalatecoSV That’s cool, I had a lot of squadron friends who were AM’s. I was an Interior Communications Electrician (IC2) stationed on the USS John C. Stennis in Bremerton, WA. If we end up getting accepted, lets get a beer or something during orientation week (if we have to as transfer students). I’m sure we can share some pretty good stories.
Hey guys,
I’m applying for admission for the Spring 2018 as a transfer student to the College Park Campus.
College: Chicago Community College
GPA: 3.93
ECs: President of 2 clubs, tutor, manager at my job
SAT Scores: Not sending because I’ve completed 40 credits to pass the waiver.
HS GPA: 3.36 (Not so good)
Can someone chance me for UMD?
@Carlos303 I’ll see if I can, my life is extremely busy nowadays working at NASA GSFC and helping my wife
raise our two children.
I can’t wait to hear back from admissions, as soon as anyone here gets an e-mail let us know.
@EconDon23 I think you should be fine to be admitted. It’s a matter of luck and chance now.
Hey guys! If any girl is looking for an off campus apartment at UMD please let me know! I transferred here last semester so I can guarantee that my apartment is by far the best for transfers students.
Transfers are treated great here at UMD! I transferred this past semester and it is already 10000% better and more accepting than my last university.
However, I feel that Greek life is kind of important in terms of tailgates and things like that, but that is just me
Does anyone know when we will be receiving our responses?
Not yet @JkSmRo8 People are saying mid december and some people are saying they dont review apps till the deadline is over. I’m gonna give them a call
I gave them a call yesterday and the lady told me I will be getting a decision in a week and a half.
So the end of next week hopefully?
Thanks @Chalatecos! I’ve been looking through past threads of the past couple of years and I noticed that people usually get their decisions on October 14th.
