Yes, that’s why submitting a resume is optional. But it does provide a concise way to list all accomplishments, awards and extra courses all in one place, so some students might want to do it.
It does save AOs time as well.
Agreed! I saw someone here calling UMD a “safety” for their out of state child. I wasn’t quite sure that could be possible…? We have a high stats kid in state, and I’m not even considering it a safety. lol
Hi Prospective Parents,
It’s currently Oct. 17 - if your child hasn’t submitted their application yet, please nudge a little for them to get it in at least a week before the Nov. 1 deadline. Also, if you are submitting test scores and haven’t yet requested them for UMD, please do it now and EXPEDITE - as they have to be received by Nov. 1, not requested. Check the portal to make sure all transcripts and recs have been received. If it shows they are missing, please go remind any teachers/counselors about the deadline. If it says complete, please call Admissions to confirm it is actually complete. Last year several families experienced a glitch where the portal said complete and it still had a couple things missing. Wishing you the best of luck with UMD - it’s a great school!
23 received a note saying application was not complete. When they logged in, they saw “application complete.”
We plan to email or call to find out what’s going on.
Anyone else have this same issue?
Yes my daughter’s portal also says complete but we too got email saying it is not complete.
I am also planning to email the office.
Probably a system glitch. But get an email confirmation from the admissions office asap.
I think so too. Yes I emailed them and got automatic reply with a link for FAQ.
On Monday my daughter’s portal said it was incomplete, but also provided the completion date (over the weekend, she got a teacher recommendation which should have completed all boxes needing ticked). She sent a request for clarification, and they immediately sent that automated reply with FAQ. Nevertheless, yesterday she received an email from an actual person, confirming completion, and the portal now also reads complete.
So it seems a bit glitchy, but it’s worked itself out.
Yes, they usually reply within a couple of days. They’re pretty good about it.
YES we see the same thing. Says all recommendations, transcripts, and scores are in (Yes after each one) but then says Application NOT complete. So confusing. I was also planning to call, too. Did you hear anything yet?
My daughter had the same issue; it worked itself out in the portal within a couple of days. In the interim, admissions confirmed all was there.
thanks! My son’s portal has since updated and now says the application is complete. Phew!
We always suggest calling admissions and getting confirmation that the application is indeed complete. Last year several families found their child’s application had been bumped to RD because it was missing some component (sometimes it was that they’d taken classes for credit at a college and didn’t realize they had to submit). We post reminders and have experienced parents to help answer questions in the FB group for prospective Terp parents. Please feel free to check it out.
My son just created the portal after submitting the application two days back. In there everything shows incomplete - test scores, letter of rec, transcript. These things were sent already a few days back. Does it take time for the portal to reflect that?
The following Admissions FAQs address this
After Submitting Your Application
Q: How do I know if my application materials have been received?
You can track your application status and confirm receipt of application materials online through the Terps Application Portal (TAP). Within two business days after submitting your application, you will receive an email with instructions on how to create a TAP account. It may take up to 10 business days for recently submitted materials to be listed as received on your checklist and it is your responsibility to confirm receipt of all required materials.
Q: I submitted my standardized test scores more than 10 business days ago, but it does not appear that UMD received them. Why is that?
Standardized test scores can take several weeks to process and be received by our office. Please confirm that the testing agency submitted your scores to the University of Maryland, College Park, using the SAT code 5814 or ACT code 1746. Applicants often send their scores to other institutions in the University System of Maryland by mistake.
If your scores were sent to the University of Maryland, College Park, confirm that the first, middle and last names indicated on your test are the same as those used on your application. Different spellings can result in scores not matching with application files.
If you have confirmed both of these details and still have questions, please email us at ApplyMaryland@umd.edu for assistance.
Does anyone know if applicants need to send transcripts if they have dual enrollment credits for classes that were taken in their high school and taught by a high school teacher?
At my daughter’s high school, language students in levels three, four, and five, can receive credit through our local state university. However, it is just the same high school class taught by the same high school teacher.
Thank you
Thanks again. Application now says complete.
I would say that the safe answer is “Yes, send the transcripts”
Do these classes appear on the high school transcript? If not, then Definitely Yes.
Yes, best to send if in doubt.
There were a few cases in past years where applications were held up due to missing transcripts. And you do not want to get pushed to the RD round!
