Consider LACS. Merit is more likely there. You maybe surprised.
I always say to write more if possible as long as it is worthwhile- a few extra sentences is probably a good thing to expand on the answer.
Trying to backtrack dates but for submitting LORs is the deadline date for when LOR (and transcript) is RECEIVED or when itâs SENT electronically? Does it vary school to school?
On UMD website, itâs a little contradictory:
â Applications are considered complete when the online application and all required documents have been submitted. All materials must be submitted electronically or postmarked by the appropriate deadline for consideration. It may take up to 10 business days for recently submitted materials to be listed as received on your checklist and it is your responsibility to confirm receipt of all materials.
Application materials received after the intended deadline will be added to your file, however, we cannot guarantee they will be considered during the review of your application.â
On the one hand, it says itâs considered complete when sent by deadline; on the other hand it says if received after deadline, it will go to RD?
Anyone know for sure?
Are you using Common App? Or? How does high school send the LORs?
Best to ask your hs guidance counselor and your UMD admissions rep for your hs.
This has been a stressful question in past cycles. A few sad reports of an app pushed to RD bc transcript or test scores, etc., werenât received.
Rule of thumb is to submit two weeks early so it is received and processed by UMDâs admissions office database.
Thanks, thatâs what I figured - was going to have kid use 10/15 as requested deadline.
Even in last yearâs UMD results thread, iirc, someone had trouble with all components of their application being identified with the student. The application wasnât considered as received on time. A misspelling, or wrong SSN or somethingâŠ
Yes, great advice. UMD is very strict with its Nov 1 deadline, so best to send everything in early.
As a follow up, what exactly is a secondary school report? Common app lists âsecondary school reportâ for some schools but these schools donât require any counselor or teacher letter of recommendation or transcript? For example, Pitt, Penn State, Temple? I was under impression these schools need only application, SAT if sending, and SRAR. Is that correct or does some other document also need to be requested? School instructions only reference transcript and recommendations not school report. UDel on their site does say school report or counselor LOR so maybe it is same thing
Thanks!
Make sure that you submit SAT/ACT if you chose on Common App to do so, or your application is not complete without scores received. My DDâs friend missed EA that way at UMD, and was not accepted RD⊠She was fine in the end (got into a good college) but it created some unnecessary stress.
Thanks we did that a while back for all schools. Will make sure it shows as received.
My understanding is that itâs a profile of your school listing what classes are offered, what the average and range of GPAs are, etc. It helps the AO understand the performance of an individual student in the context of their school. Speak to your GC about it.
General consensus seems to be that students interested in CS, should apply directly to the LEP-CS program. Changing later to CS is expected to become harder in the future years. But as of now the LEP-CS guidelines are not updated yet.
When submitting SAT scores from the college board as required by UMD, it states all scores are required. Is this correct? what happens if you only submit one?
I donât believe they say you need to submit all. But they super score across all the test scores they receive, so thereâs no downside to submitting them all. If one test sitting represents the highest score in both sections, itâs fine to just submit that one.
on the college board when you send them it says to. But how would they even know if she only submitted one? Her best score in both areas was on the same test so she doesnât need to be superscored. I called the school and they said to submit all, but Im a little hesitant because the scores she got after her best one are lower.
I donât think they would know.
I wouldnât worry about that. The AO reading her file will only see the super scores.
But if it concerns you, just submit that one score.
Yes that is correct, at least two years ago- official score report to UMD from College Board requires all scores.
DS24 is getting ready to submit his application, but I am wondering if we can request test scores and transcripts from Dual Enrollment be sent prior to him actually submitting his application. Or, does this need to be done after he submits his application?
I think itâs best to submit the application first and then send the scores and DE transcript so thereâs no issue about which file they land up in. UMD is very particular about receiving everything by the Nov 1 deadline, so best to submit all these asap.
