Does anyone know much about Maryland's Young Scholars Program? Like acceptance rates, prestige and whatnot.

If you're accepted, is there financial aid?

Also, anyone applying to it?

The program looks really cool. From what I’ve heard, it doesn’t sound like a purely ‘money generating’ program, and offers really interesting, fun courses at a decent price.

So I’m applying! Already sent in the app and fee, just waiting for my school to send in my transcript and teacher’s rec.

I’ll most likely do the same thing. Plus I have pretty high respect for Maryland U.

One thing that bothers me about the program is the “- $205 non-refundable application and enrollment deposit fee”

This is required for your application to be complete according to the YSP website…

Why is the fee so high? If admission is supposed to be selective and competitive how can it be that expensive without any sort of guaranteed enrollment.

Anyone?

bump

bump

Got my confirmation letter and am attending! Anyone else attending the UMD YSP program?

I attended this last year!! Overall, it was a great experience. I was able to get a feel for UMD and met so many amazing people. It is definetly worth the money. Unfortunately, there is no financial aid. I have a 0 EFC and no financial aid was offered.

To answer your question, I believe everyone is accepted that meets their qualifications, unless if too many students apply. There was a variety of people last year. Some had a 4.0 GPA and 2400 on SATs while other students just didnt care about school. So I would say its not too hard to get into.

If you have any other questions, feel free to message me :)

I got an e-mail saying that I was accepted. My packet should be coming in the mail sometime this week Is it all work and no play? How are the people? Also, when do we get to know who our roommate is?

^From what I read, I’m under the impression that we won’t find out our roommates until we get there.
What course are you taking? :)

^^Awww. That stinks I will be taking the Introduction to Computer Programming. How about you?

Geography!
But at the moment I’m considering changing to International Political Relations if they still have any spots open in that course.

^^^^ Oh. cool.

Anybody else going? :)

I’m going - just sent in my application.

That’s good. I’m excited :D

awesome! what course are you in?

Im going! Anyone taking the communication course?

Thxs for the thread. It looks very, very good and it is fairly priced and the web page for it is extremely clear and informative unlike others I have read which are truly ■■■■■■■■ and lacking specific useable information.

Might send #1 son next year.

The other option is Furman’s summer enrichment program. Get this…one week, $1,000 bucks, good non-credit courses. That is fair.

But this one looks very good. Thanks.

So how was it? I’m planning on applying this year. What did people do outside of class? were you able to get letters of recommendation from teachers you worked with?
