So I want to go to the University of Miami and I’m out of state. I recently went to an information session here in Dallas where the speaker told us that 30000 applications were submitted during the early action process which prompted me to apply for early decision as I really want to go there and there’d be less competition. Can someone please highlight the differences and whether I’m making the right decision? Thanks. Also does being African American hinder or help me?
Could that EA 30,000 number be possible? Last year UM received 33,415 TOTAL applications. Maybe he included all early applications (ED I, EA, and ED II).
I guess anything is possible but nearly 90% of applications from EA?
Something doesn’t seem right.
In any case, applying ED will show your commitment to the U so in that regard it gives you an advantage. However, they have seen enough applications (33k last year) to know whether or not you are right for them. If your stats are not right, you won’t get accepted no matter how real your commitment is. Being African American will not hinder you, in fact you are an under represented minor at UM so it should help you.
Good luck!
Thank you so much sir! Do you have any helpful tips to increase my chances of being admitted?
I don’t think there’s anything I could tell you to help your chances, I’m no expert.
But I would suggest you list your stats and EC’s and post them in the University of Miami forum and ask the question. Don’t ask about your chances, ask what you need to do to improve your chances. People are generally pretty helpful.
Good luck!
Obviously 90% is extremely high. However, to get any scholarships at Miami you need to apply ED 1 or 2 or EA. I think most people probably want scholarships as Miami is very expensive. I’m most likely not right but it’s an idea.
Thank you very much!
