Of those who got admitted into the spring semester at the University of Miami, who is deciding to go?
I am strongly considering this option with my son but UMiami is not making it an easy decision. There’s no chance for merit aid, on campus housing is a big concern and I have questions about initial schedule and what to do during the Fall. The FAQ’s on the admissions website left me with the impression that Spring Admission is second class citizenship.
My two biggest concerns are housing and whether I will be feeling isolated. I read on UMiamis page that it offers a trip to Rome for just spring admits, so it allows anyone admitted in the spring to not miss out on making connections with other students. I am considering either going on the Rome trip or spending my fall working to put the money towards the expensive tuition. Let me know what your son decides to do I would love to know!
Thank you and will definitely keep you posted! I will have to check out the international study options, thanks for pointing it out. We are just trying to figure out options for making the Fall productive and that he can still graduate on time.
It sounds like you are going to commit to the Spring. My son has an excellent alternative but he doesn’t see it that way. He’s all in on Miami.
That’s a great idea. I will mention to my DD
Spring admit here (from Texas) who just came back from visiting UMiami. Absolutely fell in love with the place! Unfortunately, we were not able to get any concrete answers regarding our on-campus housing options (if any).
Question for those here: Has any spring admits received their financial aid package? We have submitted all the necessary paperwork, and UMiami confirmed “receipt/completion” of all necessary financial aid documents. Just wondering how long it takes to hear back from financial aid (national signing day is right around the corner) and deciding between two final choices. But without aid, UMiami unfortunately won’t be an option. Thanks in advance for any feedback!
My son was admitted Spring 2026. Can anyone tell me why?
My son was also admitted for Spring 2026 and we accepted the offer. I tried to research why and couldn’t come up with any kind of definitive reason. Personally it left me feeling like he was a notch below those admitted for the Fall but I found no concrete proof that was the case.
UM wants to fill any slots that become available due to Freshmen drop outs and students that decide to study abroad. I’m told there’s anywhere from a few hundred to 500 slots for Spring starters.
It appears that most Spring offers came from the ED II round and a few others from RD. We converted our EA deferred decision to ED II which I’m sure helped gaining acceptance.
I just heard on the Spring Admit webinar that housing is NOT guaranteed for our first semester. Did I miss this announcement or is this new information?
I have an email from the Housing Department a little over a month ago that said housing would be guaranteed for Spring, 2023.
I asked the housing department about housing as well for spring admits. My son has accepted the offer to go to the U as a spring admit in January. He’s very excited! They said housing is not guaranteed however there’s a good chance they will get it because a number of spots will open up. If not, hopefully they can speak with one another, the kids, and get to know each other and become roommates at a close off-campus apartment. I also asked the question if it was easier to get in as a spring admit and they said absolutely not, so all these kids should feel very proud!
