University of Miami

Problem: I have an extremely low GPA of 3.15

Stats -
GPA: 3.15 (Could possibly bring up to ~3.2 if second semester grades are good). There is a consistent upward trend in my GPA. Freshman year I got 1 2.3, sophomore year I got ~3.0, now I'm getting almost all As.
SAT: 2100 (M+R+WR)
ACT: Haven't taken. Should I take this too?
Extracurriculars: Volunteering at a hospital all summer for over 200 hours, regular school required community service (64 hours), played Cello throughout middle school and the first part of high school (I played in my states district music festival), I go to MIT twice a year for an educational enrichment program, I have many hobbies (I don't know if I should include these), and I worked on my schools lights crew for the school plays (shows leadership).
Essay: I expect it will be quite good. I am a pretty good writer.
Letters: They should be good. I have one from a teacher who saw me improve over the years, one from the lady who ran the hospital volunteering program, and I'm still deciding whom to ask for the third letter.
Other Educational Notes: I took a class at my state school and got a B+, then I took a math class at a community college and got an A (community college because it was free and I wanted to get into calculus senior year).

University of Miami is my dream school.

The good news is that your SATs are at the 75th%-tile; the bad news is that 96% of entering freshman undergrads had GPA’s of 3.25 or higher. I think you have a good chance but spend time on the essays highlighting your up-trend and how you’d be a great addition to the Cane community.

Your SAT score is great. With a fabulous essay and your ability to highlight your extracurricular activities, I think you will be in good shape. If you can try to score 700+ on two subject tests, I suggest you take them as well to help your chances.
