University of Michigan 2022 Scholarships Thread

@coolguy40 this is what really confuses me. The U-M Scholarships lists a bunch of scholarships, but I’m not sure whether I’m meant to apply right now as a high-school senior or if those scholarships are for students that are already enrolled in the university. As for independent scholarships, are there any sites/pages that you would recommend for finding these scholarships?

If you’re accepted, those scholarships are prime beef for the taking if you qualify. Apply like crazy.

Most of the merit scholarships would be automatically considered if you are accepted before Feb 1. That means no separated application needed if you applied EA. Only a few big ones require separated applications which are mostly for multiple institutes or by invitation.

@billcsho Yeah but that’s for four-year LSA students. If I get Preferred Admission to Ross I won’t be eligible

Does UM give any financial aid (non-loan) to OOS students who have family income in the 100-150K range? UM OOS tuition is really high.

Have you checked their NPC? They do give some grant to some students within that income range but the amount would depends on other factors in the calculation. However, they would not meet their need. They only meet need the need of OOS students with less than $90k family income and moderate asset.

Thanks. NPC is? The family contribution calculator on their website indicated a small scholarship was likely—do they generally give what the calculation says? My D really wants to go to UM but I am worried about cost.

Confi1540… Everyone’s financial situation is different but yes they do. It really wasn’t that much more for us to go to Michigan then our home school of university of Illinois engineering, which gave us 0.00. Michigan even raised the final financial aid offer when they raised their tuition. I hope it carries over to next year…

@Confi1540 All colleges in the US are mandated to provide a Net Price Calculator. It will estimate your cost based on your family income, assets, age, number of kids at college, and their financial aids. You can tell how much grant you may get.

Knowsstuff,
Glad to hear that, on both points. Thanks.

billcsho,
I see. Do you know when UMIch will make financial aid offers?

Thanks.

The financial aid package should be out around late Feb to mid March for those admitted EA. Merit scholarship notice will start sending before that. The NPC does not include merit aid. Remember, the NPC is just an estimate assuming you have no complication like self employed parents.

@billcsho thats not true, my family is under 90k and they wont meet all my need. They probably only do that for in state, since they made it very clear that they dont have the money to “meet the demonstrated financial need of all OOS studens”

@Jagomezpr That is the new policy effective 2018. They announced it several months ago. Also, it will depends on your family asset too, not just the $90k income. For in state students, they meet the need of all without income limit. Your info is just outdated. See the link below.

That is likely the reason behind the surge of application this year.

@billcsho I’ll definitely look into this

Has onyone else had the financial aid document/award information links in wolverine access go live for them?

They said some time around early Feb a couple weeks ago. I am not surprise if they started a few days earlier than they thought.

@billcsho Have these documents always been available? I checked the financial aid information for all my applications like a week ago and I swear Wolverine Access didn’t have anything yet.

@Jagomezpr Most would not see any update in the financial aid page yet. For the scholarships that have been announced like the Regent scholarships for in-state students, they should be updated in the FA page in WA already. For most students, the first update would be after they have received the financial aid package starting in a week or so. I have not seen anyone received the FA package yet.

I’m out of state and got accepted EA to the Engineering school. I completed the FAFSA in December. I was not aware of something called the CSS Profile and never completed it. I now see within the financial aid screen on my Wolverine access record that status of CSS Profile is “Waived”. Will this prevent me from being considered for merit based scholarships?
