University of Michigan 2022 Scholarships Thread

@Musial Most merit aids do not require CSS profile or FAFSA. However, they do offer a lot of grant even to OOS students with lower income which requires both. If you are not eligible to need based aids or do not expect anything other than Federal loan and work study, it would be fine. Nevertheless, you can still submit CSS profile and the priority deadline is in April.

Yes, does anyone know when?

In the financial aid documents it says that my parent’s 2016 tax information and my 2016 tax information was requested in January, but I never was informed about it. Can I still submit them and will it affect me in any way since the information just went live?

@allycat231 That is for verification. You still have time to submit them. Indeed, if one request those tax transcript by mail, it will take a couple weeks to get them before forwarding them to UM. The FA package will be revised over the summer anyway.

@allycat231 Our tax transcripts were requested as well. You can request them by mail, but we were able to download them from the IRS website right away and faxed them in. (There should be link on the financial aid portal with options for ordering transcripts and how to go about that.) My daughter’s portal indicated they were received by the following day, so very quick. You still have time.

You may still want to check WA often after the submission. They may request additional document.

If you applied EA, then were deferred and accepted During Feb 6th, are you still considered for any kind of scholarships? My Sat was 1440, 4.0 unweighted, Lot of EC’s… I’m OOS and really need some aid to attend.

Applied EA make you eligible to scholarship consideration automatically, however, priority is given to those admitted by 12/24. As SAT 1440 is around the admission average, it is not likely to get you any merit aid.

But is it possible for me to get any other form of aid/scholorships from them?

@Anxiety82379e28ndl Did you check their NPC?

Yes, but it only says I’ll get a $5,500 grant

Is it possible for me to get anything based off my EC’s and some difficult situations in life? (Not financial) And if so, when do they normally release their scholorship details/offers?

Merit scholarship notice should be mostly sent between Jan and March. There are some scholarships that are EC related but on top of good test score and GPA. Did you check your scholarship profile on WA? Again, you are not likely to get any merit scholarship but need based aids. The FA package should be out soon. You should be able to get some loan and work study. What is your EFC? If your family income is over $90k, your need would not be met.

I checked Wolverine Access and as I understand it got some sort of engineering department scholarship for 20k. I was accepted OOS EA with an EFC of 70k. Does anybody know the selectivity of these scholarships? Are other scholarships starting to pop up also?

Collegethrows124… Who cares about how selective it was. Congratulations on getting $20,000 of free money for tuition. Is it renewable yearly?

Congrats Collegethrows124! Nice award. Where did you see it listed in Wolverine access?

@Collegethrows124 Congrats! That is the Engineering Scholarship of Honors. You should receive the letter within a week. It is the standard large scholarship in CoE. I think they offer around 100 or less to the ~3500 admitted students at CoE. It is $8000/yr for in-state and $20k/yr for OOS. I believe you only need to maintain GPA 3.0 to renew it up to 4 years. My D1 got the same one 4 years ago. Any scholarships at higher than this are even much much more competitive (less than 50 for the whole campus and are by invitation before March). If you have any need based aids, thie scholarship would offset the loan and workstudy amount first before it reduce the grant.

@DelayedNeutron I went into the financial aid section to a summary of yearly costs that broke down tuition into various categories (scholarship, financial aid, pell grant, etc). It didn’t list any scholarship names, just dollar amounts.

It would be just listed as departmental scholarship on WA. On the letter it would say the Scholarship of Honor which is actually the generic name. In Fall, the will tell you who is the donor and the real name of the scholarship (only the donor cares). There will be some events (e.g. dinner) after the school started and you can meet with the donor. You may also want to check the mailbox in the upcoming weeks for invitation to welcome events such as Amaizin Blue or Spring Welcome Day.

WHat is EFC?
