University of Michigan 2022 Scholarships Thread

WHen did you receive information about financial aid?

@Collegethrows124

@Anxiety82379e28ndl EFC is Estimated Family Contribution. It is the FAFSA term. On UMich’s NPC, it is the “Estimated Remaining Cost” on the bottom. On your financial aid package (award summary), it is “Your cost if using all aid offered”.

Have scholarships / financial aid decision been released yet for anyone? I see nothing on Wolverine Access

Has anyone seen anything about it?

If a student received an Engineering Scholarship of Honor, would that likely mean that they would not be receiving anything related to the more competetive Stamps/Shimpman scholarships?

@coe2022parent I think they are independent. But they will remove the scholarship of honor when you receive any higher scholarship from the University.

How can we check on Wolverine Access if we’ve received any scholarships?

On the financial aid tab. It’s included with your financial aid. Also, any merit scholarships will reduce the amount of need-based aid you would otherwise be eligible for.

@brantly So if I get my award letter but then I also get some money from the MLK Scholarship and the LEAD Scholarship, would that go against my award or can I use it to cover part of my EFC?

@Jagomezpr Your EFC would be the last thing to be touched. When the scholarships are reported to your account, they will first offset the loan and work study, then they will reduce the grant. Not until the whole grant amount is replaced by scholarship you will see a decrease in your EFC.
Note that the FA package will be adjusted whenever there is a change and very often, it is not settle until late summer.

@billcsho @Jagomezpr It depends. If she’s getting the Provost’s award that award will be reduced by the amount of your MLK and LEAD Scholarships. Are you out of state? Provost’s award is an out of state grant. If you do not have Provost’s award, then it’s what @billcsho said above. So, for the most part, your outside scholarships will not be used to pay your EFC.

With Provost, there is not much need based aid left to offset anyway. Anyway, the initial financial aid packages are being updated on WA. You can see what kind of aids you get.

Actually, Provost is considered need based by itself. So it is more like a grant than merit scholarship. It is a supplement to other aid to cover full tuition. So any other scholarships for tuition would automatically offset the Provost amount.

Right, but if you are awarded the Provost’s and later find out you got an outside scholarship or a departmental scholarship, they will then reduce your Provost’s.

I guess that would be the same situation for getting full ride too. Any additional scholarship would be offset.

Anyone knows why the slot inside financial aid tab says “”“Parent 2017 W-2 Form - requested”""??

There is a good chance they want your parents 2017 w-2 form completed. I really wouldn’t over think this. ;

They often ask for tax transcript and W2 form for verification.

@billcsho , my child’s Wolverine Access gives no figures. It says:

We’re sorry, we are not able to estimate your bill and loan eligibility at this time. Please try again later.

Are the preliminary financial aid packages being rolled out or does the lack of info mean there is a problem/something missing? I don’t see any messages about needing more information but I also don’t want to miss anything.
