From now on until late June, some lucky people may get off… if there is any spot open.

Does the time of when your decision tab disappearing tell you something?

No lmao

There’s no way they’ll wait until the end of June to accept anyone off the waitlist–I can’t see how that would be in their best interest. I think they’re just saying “end of June” because that’s when they’re hoping to have a full class and be able to finally reject the thousands who are still on the waitlist.

I’m actually surprised it was May 24 last year–what in the world took them three and a half weeks from Decision Day? Given that they accepted several by May 6 and May 9 the year before, my guess is that last year the people accepted in the first round just didn’t post here.

Did you guys get a reply when you emailed to your regional AO? I never got one and wondering if I should follow up w/ him.

I got one, but it’s pretty standard.

"Hello [Name],

Thank you for your email. I know this was not the decision you were hoping for and I truly appreciate your interest in the University of Michigan. Admission into the University of Michigan was extremely competitive this year - we received over 65,000 freshmen applications. Our high application volume coupled with a very qualified applicant pool has resulted in many more qualified students than spaces available.

We invited you to be on our wait list because we strongly believe you have the capability to be a successful student at the University of Michigan if space were available. Once we get a clear picture of how many admitted students pay their enrollment deposits by the May 1st deadline we will know if we are able to extend admission to any of our waitlisted applicants. Please note that you must officially accept our wait list offer in order to be placed on the waitlist. If you have any additional questions about the wait list please visit this website.

Since we do not typically admit students from the waitlist until late June, I encourage you to make enrollment plans at another college or university in case space does not become available in our incoming class. Please keep in mind that if we do not have space to admit you this year as a freshman, we will welcome your application in the future as a transfer applicant. More information about transferring to the University of Michigan can be found online. I wish you all the best in your future educational endeavors.

Best,

[Regional AO]"

I stand corrected–maybe it will be late June. I still don’t understand why on earth they would wait that long, or how it squares with their practice in the past few years. (Just one more thing I don’t understand about how U-M does admissions, I guess.)

My LOCI response said they usually start admitting off the waitlist in late May

Is there a typical day of the week we should be expecting to hear on?

Chances are real slim. Except for last 2 years, only 1-2% get off the waitlist (less than 100 kids). Let’s hope initial yield is lower again. Our response from the LOCI sent last week said by end of May/ beginning of June we’d hear. At this point we’ve moved on but it would be nice to have a tough decision to make in a few weeks

Even though May 1st is the commit date some students still have other choices or get accepted off another wait list just like all of you are doing. So waiting longer makes sure they have all their ducks lined up. Unknown question is how many spots do they actually have? I would be surprised if it’s anything close to the last few years.

Pro Tip
Get excited about the school you already got accepted to. Learn about it and it’s programs.Go on their Facebook etc sites for your major.

Getting off the wait list is a crap shoot and most likely just luck. Your all qualified for admittance. Your all going to do great wherever you end up.

My son got off waitlist last year on 5/24 last year for COE. He switched school decision to GoBlue and has had a great year. Plenty of time to apply for Learning community, register for classes and most importantly get football tix. Not sure he would have waited until late June which is when his AO predicted he would get decision.

I do not understand why they wait so long to process WL. They should know their enrollment numbers on May 2nd. What are they doing during the interim? They may lose some potential students who may get off the WL of other schools, or at least, make some students waste more enrollment deposit.

Applied Early Action before November, only to get deferred and no decision until April - which was Waitlisted. What was the point of EA then? Been extremely frustrated by Michigan throughout this entire process. Especially compared to other selective schools

@mstack I feel you, even I had the same exact experience with U-M I applied early and then got waitlisted. To top it off, I am a legacy applicant - I really hope I somehow get off the waitlist. Fingers crossed!

I also had two of my dad’s alumni friends who have known me for over 19 years combined write me LORs and sent them into the AO. Will there be a significant increase in chances? Really pulling all the stops here I really want to get in

My application status page is down. Did this happen to anyone else?

what do you mean by the application status page is down?
