Even considering they have traditionally been released on Friday…
@brazos21
Straight from the HAIL guidebook:
"Is every applicant offered a HAIL interview?
Not yet. HAIL grows every year, and one day we hope to reach
a point where every student who wants an interview can have
one.
Am I more likely to be admitted than a student who was
not invited to participate in HAIL?
Not necessarily. Hundreds of students will be admitted who
never received a HAIL interview invitation. "
So no worries.
Sorry for the double post, but I just had my HAIL interview!
Here are the questions I got if anyone’s anxious:
Why UMich?
Why engineering?
What would you invent if you could?
What’s the biggest problem engineers face today?
Describe a time you’ve failed.
Describe something you’re proud of.
Who do you admire?
What you want to know about UMich?
It took me a half hour to get through those, and I was very “myself”, slang and all. (I said “like” and “basic” at least, like, 5 times each. Because I’m basic.) But I think that was okay because the interviewer kept saying “Hell.” (As in wth when talking about his experience at UMich.)
Anyway, the weird part was that he then spent 25 minutes talking about all the very specific advice he has for how I should structure my classes and keep my GPA up. It was incredibly boring and he repeated almost everything he said, making it last f o r e v e r .
Which is strange, right? Like that’s not a normal interview thing.
Anyway, the first part went well. He told me he didn’t give negative reports to UMich, so that alleviated a lot of fear.
Good luck to all other interviewees!
I submitted my application on October 30th and they told me that I was qualified for EA on November 15th. Now I am pretty nervous! We are most likely to hear back from them in several weeks! Good luck everyone and GO BLUE!
So most likely the results will come out on Friday the 22nd of December as it is the last Friday before Christmas Eve?
@davy901 No, I would expect results to come out the week before due to the fact that the 22nd is basically Christmas weekend. Friday the 15th would be my guess.
Students have to be out by end of day 12/21/17 - same Thursday (albeit 12/22/16) as last year. With the way the holiday falls over the weekend again, it should be a repeat of last year. With that said, College Confidential started lighting up TUES, Dec 20 @ noon with portal updates, a little later that day with actual emails.
@brazos21 I’m not sure why they call it an interview. It was actually a meet and greet of sorts. My son was invited via email then a scheduled meeting with an alum. It was a chance for the alum to ask him questions and vice versa. It was a very casual meeting that lasted a little more than an hour. I have read it has no weight in their decision in acceptance.
@098123Student I saw that from the thread from last year. A lot of people that same year said that the Office of Admissions was running behind schedule that year. Perhaps this year they will anticipate for the amount of applicants? Honestly I hope so, I cannot wait any longer for my decision!
So is Early Action more competitive than Regular Decision?? And do the decisions come out on the 22nd or the 15th??
@piday314 Early Action is definitely more competitive than Regular Decision, but I think most people have a better chance of acceptance for Early Action than Regular Decision, since it shows Michigan how dedicated you are. As for the decision date, I have no idea. It’s somewhere in that time frame.
Hi all,
I had my HAIL interview today and although it went well, I was thoroughly disappointed. This is mainly because the interview was over the phone instead of in person. Not exactly what I signed up for. However, I cannot complain too much because it went well and I am much more interested in the school now. I don’t think the opportunity matters too much in the grand scheme of admissions because 2 friends of mine got the HAIL offer and one of them will be having a phone interview tomorrow while the other hasn’t heard anything from the assigned interviewer. If you haven’t heard anything from your interviewer, I would strongly recommend emailing them because they are due by the 10th. At the same time, do not be too worried because my interviewer kept me stressed out till he finally emailed me on Sunday.
Received an email stating EA has been granted however notification of decision will likely be sometime in January. NOTE: the School Report wasn’t submitted until 11/17. So the delay in decision is due to the late submission and they are considering the large volume of EA applicants who submitted their documents on time first. Whew, I’m glad to at least be considered early even though it is delayed.
To add, EA - Requested has now changed to EA - Qualified
where do you see the EA: received vs. EA: Qualified?
@agrace14 it’s under application status - application data
What does it mean if EA Qualified (for engineering) but no HAIL interview?
It doesn’t mean anything. Michigan couldn’t find an alumni interviewer in your area. The HAIL interview doesn’t factor into your admission decision very much.
HAIL is only available in some areas.
has anyone gotten in yet? is there any word of when they start releasing decisions?
