University of Michigan Class of 2023 - Deferred Applicants

This is the discussion for all of us who were deferred, lets keep our fingers crossed for RD!

Does anyone know if we’re able to edit anything on our application. There are some major EC’s I wanted to add to my application

35 ACT
3.9 GPA unweighted

Got deferred, think my writing fell short. Does anyone know where I should send a LOCI?

@Maxshroom how do you find the LOCI? I’d guess to send it to your area rep

@Brownie2019 I’d email your area rep and ask them

Deferred - LSA and Ross Preferred Admission

White male from California
35 ACT
1550 SAT (750 R&W, 800 M)
4.39 W GPA
11 APs (5s on Calc AB, BC, Physics 1)
800 SAT II Math

ECs:
Student Body Vice President
Varsity baseball (part of program all 4 years of high school)
Busser at local French restaurant
Tutor at local tutoring academy
National Honor Society member

I’d like to think that my essays were great; I worked on them for a long time with one of my English teachers and a college counselor

Also attended summer program at UMich and received a letter of commendation from a Mich professor

I’ve heard that lots of applicants with very high scores get deferred EA as Mich is worried about true interest in attending. Should I not be worried about my deferral?

Nevada Applicant, got deferred.
I think it’s my out of state status and meh GPA, tho I have a lot going for me imo (recommendations, minority applicant, college credits etc.)
Still a bit disappointed, my cousin in Muskegon got accepted and I was hoping to share the good news with her.

@nadocrasin your stats are great, If Umich is your top school I would email your rep and tell them your continued interest

deferred from LSA with a 98.70/100 gpa and 32 ACT. I’m OOS from IL and legacy (my dad is an alum). Thought my application was pretty strong but oh well. My counselor is going to send in my semester grades, but I’m looking at an 83 in AP Chem. Should I address this in a LOCI? If I do, will the AO be understanding since I’m going into Law and not STEM? I don’t want this to be the reason I’m not accepted.

How do we find our rep?

36 ACT. 4.54 GPA. 7 APs. Thought my application was good and am surprised that I got deferred. Anyone know what the acceptance rate is for deferred applicants? And should I send a LOCI?

@jlambert go to this link, scroll down to high school students, and click your state https://admissions.umich.edu/contact-us

@JFadeK if Umich is your top I would send the LOCI, do you know where we find it?

@cdr2001 Thanks, I really appreciate it!

I was checking the thread from last year’s deferred applicants and apparently the deferral letters people got were slightly different. Did anyone else get an email stating that “Strong recent grades that are available before mid-February 2019 may improve your status in the deferred pool of applicants.” ? because some people last year did not get emails that mentioned grades, does this mean i have no chance?

  • sorry not an email did it say the aforementioned thing in your letters?

@kkogrady mine said the same

Hey everyone. Just an FYI for you deferred applicants. Thumb through the Class of 2022 Deferred thread and I bet all of your questions will be answered, including the LOCI.

For the LOCI, I read that some folks sent them this week, some did it after the holidays. Is there a recommended time? Thought the AOs would be receiving alot of emails right now and it minimize the impact.

@kkogrady it seems they have the same version this year. Here sending grades are optional.
