What are my chances with these stats: 3.81-3.83ish GPA, 2240 SAT.
Special Case: Moved to India in the 7th grade into Indian school system, in 8th grade switched to British School system, 9Th grade switched schools, 10th grade moved back to the US. Moving around screwed up my grades Freshman and Sophomore year but I got straight As junior year in 3APs 2IBs (HL) and 2 Honors plus an electives. ECs :Debate FBLA MUN Volunteeering Summer Med Program French Club Girl Child Network Club and …pretty involved in these; qualifying to states and nationals etc
I want to pursue a degree in either Economics or Biology (Pre Med) Thanks
What’s your state? University of Michigan is much harder to get into OOS (and very expensive I might add).
I agree with @elena3142 , we will need to know which state you are a resident of. Also, have your GC/CC make not of your special situation. I would recommend avoiding mentioning it yourself as an excuse. Make sure you apply early and put a lot of thought into your essays (have some trusted people review it). Good luck!
thanks @yikesyikesyikes @elena3142 I am a resident of PA
PA is a somewhat tough state - as you can see in this entering class profile (http://admissions.umich.edu/apply/freshmen-applicants/student-profile), there are a good amount of people from PA, but it still is not much compared to states like Illinois, California, New York, New Jersey, and Ohio. Based on this, I would predict that it is significantly tougher for you to gain admission than a Michigan resident, but not as tough as being from one of those states (I guess that is good news). If that GPA you provided is unweighted, you are still definitely in the running - it is up to you to continue good work academically and personally and present yourself as best you can in your application. I was admitted to Michigan from one of those super competitive states with a significantly lower unweighted GPA, but with pretty good extracurriculars and test scores - so definitely apply!
Yeah that is my unweighted GPA, thank you so much @yikesyikesyikes…Do you know of any other reach school I could look into?
Well what can you afford? And what about UMich were did you like?
Whoops. What about UMich did you like?
Some of Michigan’s peer schools with similar characteristics (but still very different in their own ways)
-UC Berkeley (prepare for no financial aid)
-UCLA (prepare for no financial aid)
-University of Virginia (very good financial aid)
-UNC Chapel Hill (very good financial aid)
-Northwestern University (very good financial aid)
I actually don’t think there is a huge disparity between OOS and residents. The tuition disparity is HUGE, but UM seems to be somewhat 50/50 in the pool they let in.
Looks good so far. Figure out WHY UM and nail that essay. They love people who love them ( if ther stats are good).
@HRSMom Do you mean a disparity in quantity or quality for OOS vs residents?
@elena3142 I really liked that it was a big school, great academics and that it was D1.
Thanks everyone!
Well OP, what can your family afford?
@elena3142 Cost isn’t really an issue, so anything would be fine
