University of Michigan Class of 2023 Early Action

@audie814 thank you!!

To the SMDT people, we were told when we visited campus that before being invited to audition, you would be screened academically. Not accepted, but it wouldn’t be an issue after the fact if you were accepted to SMDT.

My kid applied to LSA and SMDT (music) and did make the EA deadline. I just assume he will be deferred this round for LSA. If he does not get into SMDT he is not likely to attend. But that said, he absolutely doesn’t consider Michigan a safety or backup plan at all. He was invited to audition and is very excited to do so!

.

For someone who applied Early Action, Ross applications are not due until February 1, right?

@MuzakParent and @audie814 Do you have any idea if all invitations to audition for SMTD are announced before Christmas? I’m sure it varies by program, but curious if there will be a yes or no by the end of the week. Thanks

@hsclassof2023 the first round of Ross decisions came out February 2nd for last year so they definitely start reviewing applicants as soon as they get in EA. I turned in both my UM app and Ross app on Nov. 1st. As the Ross decisions are rolling, I would turn in your application as soon as possible if you are accepted EA.

@MusakParent thank you for that color. Super helpful. Now he just needs to nail that audition!

Two more days!

Had it been confirmed that it will come out on Wednesday, or is this all just speculation?

It’s always speculation… Lol… :(. But there has been some analysis and it points to the 19th… To me the 21 makes more sense since it’s a Friday. You will know soon enough.

BTW some asked if something happens to the portal… There is a period of time that they are not accessible right before a release… So when everyone is panicking they can’t get into their portal at the same time… Decisions usually are about to be released.

I have no idea @periwinkle4! My kid got his SMDT audition confirmation on December 4. I guess it’s not too surprising each department would be evaluating independently to keep numbers reasonable.

Hope you hear good news soon!

Hey everyone! Could anyone possibly chance me?

Major: Political Science
SAT: 1380 (650 Reading, 730 math) - I know it’s not my strongest suit; my superscore is significantly better.
GPA: W: 4.01 UW: 3.87 (I have one B in Algebra II my sophomore year, but I currently have over 100% in AP Calculus)
APs: APUSH, AP GOV, AP Physics, AP Statistics, AP Calculus AB, AP Psychology, AP Environmental Science, AP English Literature & Composition
My Schedule this year: AP English Literature & Composition, AP Calculus AB, French 3 & 4, AP Psychology, AP Environmental Science, Chamber Singers (highest-level choir at school)
Extracurriculars:
Thespians (my troupe is affiliated with the International Thespian Society; I am the Historian. I’ve been involved since I transferred to my current HS halfway through freshman year; contributed 500+ hours)
NHS (got inducted my first year of eligibility, Executive Board member)
I work at Meijer (local grocery store-I work full-time during the summer and 15 hours during the school year)
Kids’ Food Basket (a local organization that provides take-home dinners to undernourished/underprivileged children. I volunteer there multiple times a week. We just established a farm where we grow our own produce to serve in the dinners. I’m also a member of their Youth Action Leadership Board.)
Student Council (got elected my senior year)
GSA- I founded the GSA at my high school when I transferred there. I had to attend a lot of meetings with the principal and school board in order for it to get approved, but it was worth it. I live in the most statistically conservative county in Michigan and our GSA has been able to do a LOT to encourage tolerance and acceptance of LGBTQ+ individuals in our community.
Music-been in choir since freshman year, top level choir, playing piano for 10+ years
Voices- I co-wrote a play entitled “Voices” with my friend the summer before my sophomore year. It’s a series of monologues about the LGBTQ+ individuals in our community, and it was selected for performance at both the Michigan Thespian Festival and the International Thespian Festival.
Photography- I guess this is my one “quirk” that UChicago could find special about me. I travel across North America photographing musicians in concert. I don’t have affiliations with any publications or websites, so I don’t have a press pass. My photos have been featured and used by some of the artists, including Alabama Shakes, Tegan and Sara, Post Malone, and Bishop Briggs. I wrote my Common App Essay about it.

Other opportunities: I attended a session of the Michigan House of Representatives with my local Representative, got to shadow her for a day

Demographic: white queer woman, legacy (mother and two uncles attended UMich)
Let me know if you want to know what my question responses were.

(I’m so sorry about how long this is-I just really want to know if I have a shot!)

Is the portal where admissions decisions will be released the Wolverine Access New & Prospective Student Center?

Well, we can definitely rule out today. :-j

Here’s another bit of “analysis”.

At about the same time last year, two days before the expected release of EA decisions, the UMich EA 2022 thread was roughly at about the same place as the EA Class of 2023 thread is this year, in terms of # of pages. Right around 35-37 pages. So does that mean EA applications this year will remain about the same as last year, at almost 40,000 EA apps?

Maybe @SingingBusDriver can enlighten us? >:)

Yes it is. You then have to log into your friend account to check the status of your application. Results supposedly come out Wednesday the 19th at 3:00pm.

No, I don’t think so. I read that decisions are sent out via email

https://umich.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2082/~/how-will-i-be-notified-of-my-admission-decision%3F

Decisions will be available when a third link pops up named “View Decision” to the right of the “View Credentials” link. That will be where you will first get your decision. Later, you will get an email with your decision.

@applying2023 that’s not accurate. decisions are available on the portal first and for whatever reason, you are sent an email after your decision is already available on wolverine access.
