University of Michigan Class of 2023 Early Action

@Pieruano way too early ??

ACCEPTED!! LSA OOS
ACT: 35
GPA: 4.2 W 3.8 UW (out of 4.0)
Solid essays and teacher recs, Michigan was one of my tops so I am thrilled!
Anyone know if there is an accepted students facebook group?

Son knows 2 students who have lied about being LGBTQ and lied about EC’s. Both were accepted. Disgusted.

@WhereNow14 The NY Times just ran an interesting article about this (which hopefully won’t encourage more students to lie!). https://www.nytimes.com/2018/12/16/us/college-admission-applications.html

Is there an email first? I don’t see anything in email…

@Obliviostar My daughter also got rejected at Duke.

@sevenbabies no. portal first, email follows around 7-10 hours later is what i hear

@sevenbabies Typically decisions are on the portal first, followed by an email several hours later.

Accepted OOS (Maryland)

SAT 1410 (640 R, 770 M)
4.0 UW GPA

REALLY didn’t expect this. My scores aren’t that high but I poured my heart and soul into the essays.

@WhereNow14 haha one student in my class lied about being the co-president of a club i sponsor (key club) ?? oh well

I was deferred.

Essays were good but did not see the teachers’ rec.
UMich was one of the dream schools.

@SingingBusDriver If I have been admitted to U of M early, approximately when will I get my Ross Decision back? Thanks!

Hey all,
Some insight as a person who’s been following Michigan’s process for a while (I’m a senior who was just accepted to LSA in state):
First, Michigan had a record number of applicants this year. So many, in fact, that my regional AdCom deferred almost all of the applicants that were “on the fence” in my city when usually they would meet with the counselors in our high schools to help make decisions.
Second, Michigan wants a higher yield. They know many of you 36/1600 4.0 kids are probably getting into some crazy schools. Many of you have Michigan as a backup for another school. Thus, Michigan prefers to defer many of their out of state applicants who are more than qualified. In fact, you may even be “overqualified” in a sense.
Thirdly, Michigan prefers in-state students in general. Especially in recent years, there has been lots of discourse on how Michigan is too difficult for Michigan students to get into for it to be considered a state school. Many people will be deferred who have a good shot regular decision. DO NOT STRESS!!!
*Most of the speculation here was also confirmed by a provost I met during one of my visits on campus
P.S. Ross decisions traditionally come in waves in February (may be different this year but I’m not qualified to speak on it), and early action decisions are updated on the portal BEFORE any email is sent, so go check now!

@JGCStation hopefully, unlike me, she had already started her essays for other schools. Personally, I’m in for a painful winter break.

This is jumping the gun a little bit, but does anyone know when EA acceptances will receive financial aid packages? I’m itching to find out if I got anything ??

Is it bad that I don’t have a link with a decision?

I don’t have one either. They’ll probably keep rolling out until the 24th.

I got accepted!! Congrats to everyone else who got accepted and good luck to everyone that was deferred! Here are some of my stats:
out of state
nursing major
gpa: 4.77 weighted / 4.0 unweighted
sat: 1140
act: 33
class rank: 5/582

@justtrynnagetin no. most don’t. don’t be overwhelmed by CC posters. in due time your wave will be released

800 SAT II Math

ECs:

I’d like to think that my essays were great; I worked on them for a long time with one of my English teachers and a college counselor

Also attended summer program at UMich and received a letter of commendation from a Mich professor

I’ve heard that lots of applicants with very high scores get deferred EA as Mich is worried about true interest in attending. Should I not be worried about my deferral?
