How many students apply to Ross under preferred admissions?
@lkbux64
Would you mind sharing your son’s stats / why you think he was accepted to Honors? My son was also accepted EA to LSA and is thinking of applying.
When do scholarships come out? I already received my award notice but no scholarships
@mckate: S’s stats: 1530 SAT, 3.9 UW GPA 4.3 W GPA… But, I don’t think it comes down to stats for honors. Everyone applying has already been admitted to LSA and has good stats. I think it comes down to the essays and I do think the effort he put into writing those last two essays (after he thought he was done with all college essays) is what made the difference.
My daughter (in state, private Catholic all girls high school) was admitted EA and was accepted into the honors program after submitting application to meet the first deadline. 33 ACT, 4.0 UW, 4.3 W. I think they do review your application in its entirety, as well as the additional essays, which she was less than enthusiastic about writing over Christmas Break.
Anyone get the 4 year renewable scholarship yet??
How is scholarship information communicated?
Thanks @NDhelp, my kid’s stats are identical.
I hear you both on the essays! My son still hasn’t applied to Honors because he’s been overwhelmed writing scholarship essays. ‘Less than enthusiastic’ is an understatement with this kid.
How competitive is it to get into one of the theme learning communities? And, for anybody who’s committed, which one require essays?
My daughter and I are travelling to Ann Arbor on Friday to attend campus day on Saturday. I am trying my best to sell Michigan to my daughter, can anyone suggest some cool restaurants unique to the area that have a long campus tradition ?
@madmdtaxpayer I don’t have any great suggestions for your as I’m not super familiar with Ann Arbor but there is an Ann Arbor Restaurants, Bars, and Coffee Shop thread just a little ways down this board that has come good ideas.
I hope you enjoy Campus Day. My daughter was somewhat uncertain about Michigan prior to our Campus Day but is feeling much more positive about it after. Everyone was very nice and welcoming and I think she can finally see how she might fit in there. Hope you have the same experience!
Zingerman’s Deli for lunch!
Thank you! I am excited for her to see how special Ann Arbor is. She has narrowed down her choice between Michigan and Maryland (we are from Maryland). I would much rather have her at Michigan considering the great reputation and rankings the school has. AND…Michigan offered her a $26,000 a year grant and Maryland offered her ZERO. I would hate to leave that kind of $ on the table considering it is from one of the best schools in the nation.
Thanks!
I second Zinger man’s deli in Kerry Town. There also might be a farmers market kidde corner from there outside that adds to the charm of Kerry Town. I was there visiting my son a few weeks ago and at lunch it was packed with a long line going outside. Don’t let that scare you it moves fast and it’s kinda fun seeing /listening to the students etc. FYI it’s slightly off campus proper of Central campus but Michigan is much more then central campus. If it’s a nice day outside seeing the Arb is beautiful and most people just visiting have no clue it’s even there. Most importantly, relax and have fun. Michigan will sell itself. Not much you need to do. But if you don’t have that much time for lunch just Google what kind of food you want and it should be within walking distance of central campus. Good idea to just look up a map of Michigan and dining options so your familiar with locations. Also I don’t remember but lunch might be included or maybe that’s orientation day… Lol.
Thanks for the advice, I am so grateful for the incredible opportunity the University has offered us.
We’re in a similar position. Even with Moody Honors and merit from our in state (UT), the Shipman at UofM is hard to leave on the table esp when it basically equates to fully covered COA. He’s looking forward to the shipman weekend.
Regarding Campus Day, we intentionally attended CD in the dead of winter. If he were to seriously consider UofM, I wanted him to see what the winter weather is like (coming from TX). Bottom line, he loved it! The food, the people, the campus vibe, the faculty (he met with individual professors apart from CD), facilities, Ann Arbor…everything was inviting even with cold winds and snow covered grounds!
