University of Michigan Deferred Applicants Class of 2022

My response to my LOCI was just 1 line. He said Thank you for reaching out and letting him know, and then to contact him if I had any more questions and that was it. I was accepted last Friday. I think the response just depends on the regional counselor and no one should over think it

My daughter got no response at all. (MA) - not sure that it means anything other than that the rep is busy and isn’t up for responding to every email he gets. Also - I’m a little surprised they are admitting off the deferral list already. Some schools (ours for example) issued grades at the end of last week and the counselors are uploading this week. You don’t think they’ll act before getting midyear grades, do you?

@WolverineDream Deferred EA are the same as RD. If they can admit any RD without mid year report, they can admit those deferred too. They just need to compare among all RD applicants including deferred ones and make decision. The same applicant the did not make it in the EA may be fine in the RD round even without additional information.

I agree that the LOCI response just depends on the person who reads it. This just makes the reading of tea leaves that much more challenging. Best of luck to everyone and thanks for shedding light on an opaque process.

Hey, do you guys know if they release new decisions each day? or do they come in weekly packets?

To all those admitted off of deferral: Did you get your acceptance after submitting midyear grades or before? If after, how long after?

@billcsho - I suspect my daughter’s courseload was not “heavy” enough through junior year (our school doesn’t have sophs taking APs). She loaded up with 4 this year - so I suspect they are waiting to see if she could handle it.

@WolverineDream That may well be the case as GPA and course rigor are both very important. Nevertheless, no AP in sophomore year is quite common though.

Thanks - Kind of disheartening reading these boards. Kids with “12 APs” or more seem common! No idea what places have that many available - or how kids have any life at all taking that many!!

@wolverinedream
Zero APs
ACT 32
GPA 3.89
Attend vocational school for engineering technology and design along with regular HS coursework.
Been told zero chance of acceptance.

Wolverinedream . What you stated is why kids are compared to kids in their own school /region. Hard to compare to another school that has that many AP’s if your school doesn’t. Also they want the kids to challenge themselves. That might mean different things to each student. My son school was all honors and AP starting as junior. Some schools don’t have honors at all.

@WolverineDream in our orientation we were specifically told that Michigan does not hold it against you if your school does not offer AP. What they do view negatively is if you purposely avoid the rigorous AP classes.

@Knowsstuff Understood. Daughter has taken all “honors” level courses offered - 2 AP last year (Bio/Chem). Hopefully we get some good news soon with the grades in!

what was last years trend? when was the next release date

That is the case for all schools. The student would not be blamed because the school does not offer that many AP course or due to schedule conflict. It would be viewed in the context of your high schook. Furthermore, even course rigor is important at UMich, you don’t really need to be overwhelmed to be considered sufficient.

Anyone accepted after deferral instate? Also, I never got a response to my LOCI, but many of my classmates did what does that mean??

@WolverineDream I was accepted last Friday after submitting mid year grades. I was accepted about a week/week and half later. This year I took 3 APs, the most Ive ever taken. Overall I have taken six APs even though my school offers around twenty. I didnt send a LOCI at all

has anyone received decisions today? when do you think the next wave will come out?

Historically they’ve been Fridays. There’s no way last Friday was the big acceptance wave (which has typically occurred in mid-February) because many students had not yet submitted their mid-year grades, so expect a solid amount this Friday and the next, and denials will start shooting out like crazy

@Ochillith wait, I thought denials would not come out until March. They are the last priority. Once all acceptances go out in February and early March, then denials come
