in case anything comes out early, even though it’s of low probability
You guys will hear back Friday! I know how you feel, I was in your situation last year! If you get deferred no worries(I was, heard back on Feb 27), if UM is your #1, send a letter of interest to your admissions counselor stating your continued interest and that UM is your #1 school! Admissions OOS is like ~ 20% overall so its competitive to get in for just EA. They either defer you because your stats are too high and they worry you will commit elsewhere so they want you to send them a letter of interest or if your stats are borderline they want to see your grades first semester and see the overall class with RA to see if you fit! Also join the FB Class of 2020, many current freshmen are willing to answer questions for you about our experience, etc.
@carlsandburgsr - UMI defers if your stats are too high? I didn’t know public universities did that!
Please chance me for early action for LSA (Major: Econ)?
4.21 GPA (did not attend freshmen year here in the US so it’s only sophomore + junior year)
30 ACT (28 E 33 M 32 R 25 S)
only 1 AP and 3 honors courses till junior year (3 AP and 2 honors for senior year)
President of Boarding Council (student government officer at the same time)
Okay essays I suppose…
Thank you so much!
From our oos hs, 225 students applied and 104 students were accepted last 4 years. When I checked the scattergram on Naviance, the pattern of UM is close to the schools with holistic admission. UM scattergram is very different from other highly regarded public schools, such as UVa, UNC, and UCB. I am not sure whether UM practices yield protection or just holistic admission, but it seems hard to predict admission to UM compared to other public universities with stat only.
Was that School Bx Science or Stuyvesant? I graduated from Bx Science in 87 and U-M in 92 and 98.
OK I looked at our Naviance. There is one waitlist with perfect scores/GPA, but the rest of the “upper right” seems all green (acceptance). So I will hope for the best.
@fretfulmother They emphasize interest when reviewing applications. If they sense a copy and paste why I choose to apply to Michigan with another school or if the interest is not genuine like a safety school then there is a good chance one applying from OOS with good stats will be deferred. It is more of a yield thing, they overenrolled for many years except last year.
Do we know what time the decisions come out Friday?
2-3:00ish CT @ryang123 , some are posted on the portal at midnight but not all
@carlsandburgsr and they send an email notifying us right?
@carlsandburgsr - thank you! My DS wrote what I think was a good essay explaining why U-MI - his grandmother attended, and he’s looking for the strength in both Classics and STEM while also a good Jewish community. I hope it’s good enough!
@umsigmadom No. DD is from much smaller school.
@fretfulmother I wonder how other school’s scattergram looks like. If we have a few more, we might see what’s happening more. Anyway, many kids from my DD’s school think UM as a match/safety school and only small number of students attends from relatively good acceptance history and UM does not seem like that idea and they might want demonstrated interest.
@NYDad513 we send a lot to UMI who actually go, which might make a difference…
Well guys…I’m joining you guys now…I guess. Please don’t let me experience rejection like this twice in a row Umich :(.
@barcodeIlIl Did you just get rejected by Northwestern, too?
Have any of you received something in the mail about the HAIL scholarship? It is to my understanding this is the first year so there’s not a whole lot of information about it. I was just wondering if anyone had more information!
@markcal22 yeah…honestly haven’t felt this s*****y ever.
@barcodeIlIl Yeah I feel terrible. All will be forgiven, however, if Michigan comes through.
