University of Michigan EA class of 2020 thread

Please chance me for early action for LSA (Major: Econ)?

4.21 GPA (did not attend freshmen year here in the US so it’s only sophomore + junior year)
30 ACT (28 E 33 M 32 R 25 S)
only 1 AP and 3 honors courses till junior year (3 AP and 2 honors for senior year)
President of Boarding Council (student government officer at the same time)
Okay essays I suppose…

Thank you so much!

@chy123, I think with these stats you will have a fair chance of getting in RA. However, you will most likely be deferred EA given that your ACT is at the bottom of the middle 50th and your GPA will be unweighted for all intensive purposes of the admissions process. Additionally, honors courses do not account for that much and 4 AP’s will be dependent on how much your school had to offer. Michigan looks for students who have utilized all resources possible to stand out. I had 3.93 unweighted GPA and a 29 ACT with 7 total AP course and was deferred if that helps give you an idea. Additionally I was in two varsity sports and NHS. Also your prospective major does not affect admissions as all incoming freshman are technically undeclared within LSA.

@markcal22 Yeah, at least I’ll have the motivation to make it through midterms now. Umich is my second choice so I’ll still be beyond happy if I get accepted. Don’t even want to think about a second rejection in the same week at this point.

I just dreamed that I’ve got accepted yesterday and it was a pity to wake up

Don’t worry guys, the wait will soon be over… for all of us I hope.

@barcodeIlIl what was your first choice?

@Collonclal So I’m not the only one. I have been waiting for this friday for a while to get my decision. I dreamt that it was friday and I received it. When I actually woke up, I thought it was Saturday while my brother was telling me it is Monday and to get ready for school. I was like “Dude it’s Saturday because I just received my UMich letter yesterday and we are on Winter break now.” Long story short, I was pissed when I found out it was actually just Monday and it was just a dream.

@fretfulmother It seems like. UMich seems moving close to private institution for me.

How do we know the decisions will be released on Friday? All information I’ve read just indicates it will be before Dec. 24.

please read through the thread…this has come up and been answered at least 10 ten times…

Yes, the question has come up a lot, but unfortunately the answers always get lost in the previous pages. For now, for anyone who sees, the decisions will come out by the 24th, but based on trends from past years we should start seeing decisions this Friday, the 18th.

Michigan is my #1 school, but when I filled out the application I never considered they might assume I was using them as a back up. Do you guys think there are too high of scores/gpa that Michigan will assume they’re being used as a safety?

Mich used to be my safety, now it has quickly become my top choice. I am so nervous now. What other schools did you all apply to?

@ggirl2020 I think we are all overthinking it. Michigan is a very highly ranked school. I think they expect great statistics. They will not penalize you for too high of scores, that is absurd. Do not worry.

@infiniteCircle people were saying that about deferrals on an earlier thread, that’s why I was wondering. Honestly tho you’re right, I’m so anxious right now that I’m way overthinking it

@ggirl2020 Are you OOS or IS?

@infiniteCircle IS, hopefully it helps my chances:)

@ggirl2020 Yeah it definitely will. Good luck!

@ggirl2020 as long as you show genuine interest in Michigan, and it doesn’t just look like copy-pasted material that could apply to almost any school, maybe with a couple of unique sentences, you’re good

@ggirl2020 @smartypants57 Yeah. I think it helps if you talked about genuine experiences on-campus or about specific knowledge you have about the school. An essay that just highlights arbitrary facts and statements about how great the school is will likely trigger BS alarms on any admission counselor.

How much impact would a letter of recommendation from a former Michigan quarterback have on my decision?
