University of Michigan EA class of 2020 thread

@Random404 There is no data available on acceptances rates until July/August as a total. Show interest by sending in your semester grades and a letter of continued interest to your Umich counselor. The interest letter should be passionate and outline why you are a perfect fit for the University of Michigan. Good luck!

@theManUtdGuy Did you indicate that you needed financial aid while filling out the application?

I have yet to get any type of notification about my decision… no email and no update on the portal. What does this mean?

@aayd183 I would send in your AP Scores and First Semester Grades. If UM your first choice, write a letter to the admissions office explaining that if you get in you will attend. I’m a fellow Third Gen Legacy, got accepted OOS w/ 32 ACT, 3.95 GPA.

Yessss! Got in! In-state with 32 ACT and 4.0 UW. 6 AP courses (Learning material for 9 AP tests) and decent ECs with leadership. Have to attribute this success to essays; truly believe they worked the magic. Good luck to everyone else!

Deferred 31 act international to COE mechE.
33 math ECs with leadership and STEM
:(( Do I even have a chance??

I don’t understand how these 29-32 acts are being accepted to CoE and here I am with a 34 ACT, 4 leadership positions and president and founder position, and a deferral. No offense to anyone in anyway.

@englishbanana UMich has a reputation of deferring students they think will likely go elsewhere (because they are very well qualified) to protect their “yield”. They don’t like being used as a safely for Ivy League candidates. My D got accepted to U Chicago with ACT 33 NMSF 4.34 UW GPA stellar EC, but deferred EA from UMich. She will likely go to UChicago even if UMich had accepted ( UChicago is #4 in the nation at this stage and UMich is #29- if you believe in US News rankings) - they probably did the right thing by deferring her. So if they think you are overqualified, they may defer - they will likely be influenced favorably if you shw intent to join if accepted. Just my $0.02.

I got deferred.
Does umich tend to review deferred applicants earlier or much later?

I’m not even too qualified. I am only slightly above umich’s average accepted stats (but still within the range). Really bummed about it, especially because I got rejected from my first choice before this :-S

Words of wisdom!

@whej123 expressed interest is really important, so if Umich wasn’t your first choice they could probably tell. They want to know you’re excited about attending.

I got deferred. In the email, they said they need to see my first semester grades. I have a 29 ACT, a 3.75 unweighted GPA…my current grades are:
AP Gov: A
AP Stats: B
Honors Lit: A
AP Spanish: A
and 2 more A’s in electives.
Do you think I’ll get in?

@senna4ever thanks - do you know how I can send it/who to?

someone please help… Michigan was/is my first choice, and I got deferred.
I have a 36 with 800’s on sub tests with near ivy-level EC’s, but I thought my average GPA would make up for over-qualifications. I made 3 (!) campus visits even though Michigan is a sizable distance away from me, wrote insanely specific supplements, and scheduled for the HAILS interview and told them it was my first choice.
Friends of mine who, quite frankly, were much, much less qualified than myself were accepted, even though Mich wasn’t their first choice.
I have no idea what to do… People always said demonstrated interest is important and I thought I showed a ton of it… I’m really sorry if any of this came off as pretentious or whatnot, I’m currently in a really devastated mood. Thanks.

I GOT IN!!!

when? and what time? @Ryud16

Kid was in the same boat last year with a deferral. It is hard not to be pissed, frustrated, perplexed when you are such strong applicants and have worked so hard. If it is truly your top choice, definitely convey that. Put yourself if Admissions shoes, they want kids who will accept and are excited, not just an umpteenth application to another great school. And yes it is a really great school and worth being patient for and the kids there are ALL crazy smart so don’t give up and please stop thinking your high test scores mean you should have received an acceptance…that does not entitle you and that is not how life works guys. And btw they don’t want 6000 kids with a 34 plus ACT who were all class presidents and captains of their teams. That would be boring. They want some intellectual diversity. GO BLUE!

@anxiouscollege20 yesterday 12/18 at 5pm. I guess i am not overqualified.
