I know it might be a little early for Fall 2017 transfer threads, but if you’re anything like me you’re already obsessing over admissions.
If everyone applying could please post their stats, advice, experiences, etc… it would be much appreciated

MY STATS:
Female, Caucasian, Upper middle class, In-State
Current School: Average regional university
Major: Economics & Public Policy Double Major (depends on which school I get in to)
College GPA: 4.0
Extra Curriculars/Extra Stuff:
High School GPA: 2.7
Yes, I did absolutely terrible in high school. But hopefully they’ll be able to see how I got my act together and that I’m completely capable of succeeding at their school.
I welcome input and criticism on my chances
I recently reached out to my admissions counselor at UM and asked her about retaking the ACT because I also got a 25. In her email back to me, she said, “We do not recommend transfer applicants retake the ACT or SAT, both exams are designed for High School students to measure college readiness. Neither exam helps us to determine a transfer applicant’s ability or preparedness and so you as a college student do not need to retake either the SAT or ACT. We will be looking at your high school and grades, curriculum, and overall GPA in the review process. We will not focus on your test scores as part of the review of your transfer application.” So I wouldn’t worry about retaking it!
@soccerislife ahh ok that’s really helpful, thanks!
MY STATS:
Female, Caucasian/Latina, middle class, Out of State (California)
Current School: University of San Diego
Major: Economics (I am also applying to Ross as a transfer but I am almost positive that I will not be accepted because of the 1% transfer acceptance rate lol)
College GPA: 3.91 (would be coming in with 60 credits by next fall)
Extra Curriculars/Extra Stuff:
Recommendations: I don’t think they care about recommendations for transfers but I might try to get a recommendation from my academic advisor who also happened to be one of my professors last year.
High School GPA: Weighted: 3.78 UW: 3.61
My stats:
Female, Caucasian, middle class, In state.
Current School: Oakland University
Major: Economics
College GPA: I’m in my first semester right now, but it’s looking to be about a 3.8-4.0. My first semester math class doesn’t transfer to U of M, but my second semester does. Apparently when calculating the GPA when you submit your app, UM takes out the classes that don’t transfer and recalculates the GPA, so I should definitely be at a 4.0 for the first semester, as my math class would be my only B.
Credits: I’m going to be applying with having taken 16 credits, and will be enrolled for next semester with 18 credits. Overall, I’ll be applying with 29-30 transferrable credits.
Extra Curriculars/Extra Stuff:
I’m worried that I don’t hold office in any of these clubs stated above, but that is pretty much impossible to attain as I am only a first semester freshman. Hopefully I can hold office next semester, and put that on my app.
Recommendations: I have two professors in line to write me them. I’ve met with both many times, and we have a close relationship. One graduated from U of M.
High School: Attended the #1 private catholic school in Michigan. Extremely difficult school.
GPA: Weighted: 3.6
APs: I took 3 AP classes. AP Comp, Lit, and Psych.
ACT: 25
I forgot to include the my class schedule.
Fall Semester: Intermediate Algebra, Cinema 150, Writing 160 (most students take this second semester, but I placed into it), and European History Before 1715.
Winter Semester: So far I have the following classes scheduled-Pre Calculus, American Literature 224 (200 level class), Intro to Spanish 114, and am still deciding on the other two classes.
I will be applying to U of M, I currently attend DePaul University in Chicago!! Anybody have any tips for the application??
Does transferring from another prestigious university (Emory) help my chances? I’ll end up with a 3.5 first semester gpa (A’s in beginner micro, freshman writing, intro to bio, and a C in calc 1) with strong hs stats (3.7 UW 2000 SAT), EC, essays, recommendation letter, etc. Low-income URM as a hook. My second semester schedule is: Calc 2, intermediate anthro, beginner macro, and intro stats. (trying to transfer into Michigan LSA) P.S. I was rejected by michigan last year but didn’t put much effort into the application b/c I was already expecting a rejection.
One HUGE thing to include when you’re telling us about you is how many transferable credits you are applying with. Michigan very much prefers junior transfers (40-60 credits). In addition, if you apply with sophomore standing, your HS record is considered. If you apply with junior standing, only your postsecondary record is considered.
I am a sophomore at a LAC in Michigan. Due to dual enrollment and summer courses that I took for fun, I will be at 76 credits after this semester. My current GPA is a 3.6, but I think I can get it up to 3.7. I am an eagle scout, an honors program student at my current school and also a member of Phi Theta Kappa at my community college. I took twenty credits this semester. My high school GPA was 3.5 and my act was 24. Should I apply? I don’t handle rejection very well.
@PaulRoss It never hurts to apply, just make sure your essays are really strong. Your high school grades and ACT won’t matter much since you have a lot of credits
@PaulRoss I was near your exact same situation. I took ~30 credits at a community college during high school as well. When I applied to umich I had a 3.74 GPA. Also, my act score was similar to yours, that being a 26. I’d say you have a pretty good chance based upon the fact that we had similar stats. I applied to transfer for Winter 2017, and I was accepted.
MY STATS:
Female, Caucasian, Upper middle class, In-State University
Current School: Oakland
Major: Economics (Applying to LS&A)
College GPA: Expecting all A’s and a B for my first semester so I’m expecting a 3.75
Extra Curriculars/Extra Stuff:
Recommendations: I have three of my professors writing me them. One is the head of the math department and will explain my active determination to succeed in the class (the one I have a B in), and the other two will be very strong as I have a great relationship with them.
Credits situation:
16 credits first semester of my freshman year (this semester). Only 12 are transferrable.
Next semester: I am taking 20 credits. All are transferrable. I’m loading up so that U-M can see I’m trying to take hopefully come in with more credits, as well as make up for not having one of my classes from this semester transfer. That said, if admitted, I would enter U-M with 32 credits.
High School GPA: 3.6 or 3.7 I can’t exactly remember which
Competitive private high school in Michigan. U-M knows this school very well.
ACT: 25
APs: I took 3
If I work extremely hard on creating the best possible essays that I can, does anyone think I have a chance?
When are you guys sending in your application?
@dullbd probably mid January
early/mid january
Hi everyone,
I’m Tony, and I plan to apply as a junior transfer to LSA for fall 2017.
College: University of California, San Diego
GPA: 3.8
HS GPA: 3.7 UW
Applying as Economics Major.
EC:
Internship at small investment bank.
member of National Society of Leadership and Success
HS tennis captain + college intramural tennis
other stuff
I was wondering: I have a W on my transcript due to dropping a course just after the deadline (which was a mistake). How would that affect my application and can I do anything (besides explaining it in the comments) to help make it better?
Please chance me, thanks!
I’m currently a freshman at Michigan State and am applying to transfer for next fall! I originally applied and was accepted to U of M and Ross as a preadmit, and decided not to go for several reasons - but discovered I actually wanted to go to UMich so am applying to transfer. My first semester GPA is a 3.73 and all of my classes transfer. Since I already was admitted is it basically guaranteed that I get in?
@msu2020 Guaranteed to be admitted to Ross or U of M? You have a great chance at U of M, but nothing is guaranteed for Ross, especially with their new admission policy.
