University of Michigan Fall 2017 Transfer

OOS acceptances: what was your financial aid package like? Tuition costs about 50% of my family’s income, but I didn’t get anything… Will financial aid packages be updated? Ugh. Lol. Such a bummer.

Note: I submitted FAFSA and the CSS profile on time

@lexluther96 I said “they” instead of “the” on one of my essays. Similarly, I don’t know how I missed it.

I got into LSA!!
I applied 2/1 and got the update on wolverine access today.
For everyone don’t give up! I only have a 3.4 cumulative and got accepted so just make sure your essays, extracurricular, and rec letters are great and give it a shot.
Good luck to everyone left.

@lexluther96 Hi I am from out of state too (California). My financial aid package was $40k. Most of it was in the form of a U-M grant

I am still waiting for my rejection letter. -sigh-

@cassidylynnn Hi! You have to pay $40k or they gave you $40k? My family income was about $115k in 2015, which is what FAFSA is unfortunately going off of now. They asked for additional paperwork from me, so I’m not yet sure what my package will be.

So Michigan said I needed to respond by May 1st, but I hear back from other schools after then. For example, WUSTL is in mid-may. If I asked Michigan to extend the deadline would they do that? Or could I just put down the deposit, and wait for the decisions, and if I get in to a better school I just lose the $300 dollars. Thoughts?

no hurt in asking

@sPib9Kiv9anD0aWd They won’t let you extend it for that reason. I’m requesting that they extend it for me because they’re asking for extra paperwork before giving me a financial aid package, but they explicitly say they will not extend it if you are waiting on other decisions.

Hey guys, any LSA transfers? If so, what’s your major and are you deciding between any other schools?

@lexluther96 they gave me $40k. Also in response to your new question, I’m an LSA transfer; econ major.

hello

where do i look for my acceptance/rejection status?

Is there anyone out there who was originally waitlisted their senior year of high school but still received a “guaranteed” sophomore transfer acceptance from UMich and has still not received a decision? I am one of those kids who received this conditional acceptance and I still have not heard back from Michigan so I’m beginning to worry. Anyone else in the same boat?

Hey guys! Accepted to LSA last Thursday! Applied on January 30th and finally heard back March 30th…I do not understand why it took two months (especially when they need my deposit/decision by May 1st), but happy to be accepted nonetheless.

I applied in high school with a 92/100 GPA and was denied. For my freshman year, I decided to go away and attend a four year private college. Did wonderful here, with a 3.8 cumulative GPA. Two of my profs even wrote excellent letters of recs for me for my transfer application. However, because I was still undecided academically, I made the smart decision to transfer back home where I am currently attending a local community college. I will be awarded an AA in Liberal Arts with Honors this May…hands down best decision I could have made! Last semester, grades slipped to a 3.7 GPA (working 30+ hours/week on top of taking 18 credits), but this semester I am on track for a 4.00 GPA! I will have junior standing by this fall.

As far as the application, I put a lot of effort into my essays and as aforementioned, submitted two letters of recs from previous professors (which is optional for UM). An admissions counselor told me that they mainly focus on college GPA for transfers, with little emphasis on extracurricular activities, SAT scores, high school grades, etc.

Now, still waiting for my financial aid to come in! I am an out-of-state student, so we will see what happens. I too, am in the same dilemma as you guys…waiting to hear back from Cornell, Northeastern, etc., but they won’t notify me until after May 1st. Plus I have never even visited UM and do not think I will have the opportunity to do so before the deadline…wondering if I can defer my acceptance if anything (probably not).

@buddy92 They’ll let you defer the deposit in certain cases. They haven’t given me my financial aid package yet, so i I’m requesting that they defer mine until June. I requested it on Friday but I haven’t heard back yet. I’ll post their response when I get it. I know what you mean though! I’ve never been to Michigan so I haven’t been able to tour it, but the school looks awesome! Do you know what Ann Arbor is like? Is it fun? I am also waiting on other responses though.

Although I love love lovvve U-M, I’m hoping to get a better financial aid package elsewhere. I used the estimate tool and it doesn’t look like I’m going to get a lot, whereas at like Georgetown for example, if accepted, I should get about $30k in aid; and Columbia would give me almost $50k. I think U-M is only going to give me like $8k… Oh and I’m also a California resident, so UCs are much cheaper for me… Siiigh. I want to go but idk if I can with only $8k in aid if that’s what I end up getting.

However, good luck! It doesn’t hurt to try to defer it. Just don’t say it’s because you’re waiting on other decisions — they explicitly articulate that they will not grant it if that’s the reason (lol). Hope this helped!

Would the admission office give you any notification before the final decision comes out? Last time when I asked one of the admission staff, she said before mid April, which is really late.

@lemoncandy when did they receive all your application materials?

@lemoncandy I asked admission staff via e-mail, then she replied: “You will receive a final decision by mid-April at the latest.”

Does anyone know of anyone who has received any sort of decision for CoE?
