lets hope not

I don’t think that it’s necessarily true but it definitely means that your chances of rejection or being waitlisted are higher.

There are still small batches of admissions coming out.

I’ve only heard people getting acceptance for class of 2019. I haven’t seen any saying they’ve been denied/wait listed…anybody??? Anyone accepted to COE recently?

@tigermom2015‌ there have been some rejections.

Dear god I hope I get in. I’ve just been rejected by Northwestern after being deferred from ED…

How hard is it to get into LSA OOS compared to NU? I guess if the Tufts Syndrome theory is correct then a 31 ACT and 3.85 UW GPA should be on par… I’m so scared.

Thank you! Will continue to wait anxiously…

Anyone want to explain the “Tufts Syndrome Theory?” :expressionless:

@uofmPlease Read from this post onwards http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/discussion/comment/18258364/#Comment_18258364

I am thinking that i will be rejected anyhow. I did everything at this point but truly regret that I applied for Michigan and loved it genuinely. I am like half-heartbroken. Why do they not just release our decisions if we are not in or waitlisted

@Jamesesesess‌ that’s actually really disappointing bc I’m OOS with lower stats. This means that they’ll accept students with high stats now to compensate for the low stats in order to raise the admission credentials, right?

@uofmPlease I… am not really sure. The way I interpreted it is that the students they accept now would be the ones who are likely to attend if accepted. That means that those with 33+ ACTs and 4.0 GPAs, who are probably applying to numerous Ivy’s and other private schools, would be strung along through the waitlist process because UMich wants to maintain their yield. They know that those people are likely hoping to get into a “better” school. Then they would pull those with high stats who showed interest in attending off their waitlist to raise their averages.

I have no idea where my stats even rank because I can’t find any OOS-specific data, but I am pretty scared…

@Jamesesesess‌ Hey, good luck! We’re in this together. I’m really hoping you’re right because I really want to go and think that I’ve really expressed my want to go as well.

@Jamesesesess Your score is slightly below admission average whole your GPA is near the admission average. As OOS student, your chance may be lower than the overall admission rate.

I really think that Michigan needs to rethink their admissions process. For those that applied EA to not have an definitive response by now is utter nonsense. And, to think that they can’t even promise a reply by April 1st is adding insult to injury. Truly has left a bad taste in many mouths!

I honestly thought at the beginning of all of this that Cal Poly’s rolling admission would be the worst one, but this one is seriously getting ridiculous. I’m sure that they know by now most of who got in and who didn’t, so why not just tell us? The only thing I can really think of is that they’re waiting to see whether anybody rejects their offers before April so they can immediately move waitlisted people into the accepted pool.

@uofmPlease Good luck to you too  yeah, I think it’s pretty clear that you want to go! Haha. I’m worried that my not doing any college tours has hurt my chances for every college but I just can’t afford to travel to all these places when I don’t even know if I have a future there. Then again, I flat out told Northwestern in my deferral letter that I would still promise to attend (and their deferral acceptance rate is ~50%) and I still got rejected… this bruise is never going to heal. What would really be funny is if Columbia threw a curveball and accepted me (I really want to be in New York and I had a couple fee waivers left so I thought why not)… ha. ha. ha. I wish.

I’ve explored the area deeply online and I know I’d love it there. As soon as I first started looking into UMich it didn’t take long for it to become my second choice, only behind NU. The indie theaters, all the restaurants and cafes, all surrounding the campus, which looks extensively beautiful within itself…

@billcsho Ergh, well… my guidance counselor seemed convinced that it’s a match for me and that they want to bring students over from Wisconsin, but I take most of what she says with a grain of salt since the admissions world can be pretty ugly. I kick myself everyday for not discovering UMich sooner and applying EA. I was pretty convinced I was going to get into Northwestern ED and naively didn’t apply to any other schools besides UChicago EA.

@Jamesesesess‌ I totally understand the pricing thing. At one time I felt like it was going to be like a vacation just to visit a university. But things kinda changed for me and then I was able to visit, which was a plus. I only live about 2 hours away too, so that kinda was advantageous.

“The indie theaters, all the restaurants and cafes, all surrounding the campus, which looks extensively beautiful within itself…” this. A main reason why I loved the campus and environment of AA.

@Jamesesesess I am almost in the same situation except I was rejected from NU ED in December. It hurt, but after all this waiting, I think a rejection from Mich will hurt even more. I’m also OOS. Best of luck to you!!

@Jamesesesess Your GC may have outdated information. The admission stat at Umich has been going up a lot in the last 5-6 years while the admission rate went in the opposite direction.
