University of Michigan RD class of 2020 thread

Italian International student here! Good luck to everyone! I have a ACT 31(34 in math) + 770 Math leve 2 and 730 Physics. TOEFL 105.

@unusually me, haven’t heard back yet

@blazedragon Thanks!
@whosayagain Oh wow, I applied on Jan 21st and am still waiting. Your application might be special, congratulations! :smiley: Are you planning to attend, though?
And calling the ‘last minute’ thing a South Asian trait is very generic in our case. For example, I applied so late because I was applying to other universities (I stupidly applied to a lot of safeties early and all my main ones were left for December and January), and I tried to make my Michigan app as perfect as I could, which took me a good amount of days. I’m sure those applying FROM India and studying in CBSE/ISC also had mock exams, etc. Although there might very well be those who actually left it for the last minute, I’d say that such people were doubtful of applying to U of M in the beginning and decided to apply in the last minute. I do agree with you about the trait in the general sense, though!

@akshatpradhan ** Most ** decisions are released by the end of March, probably around 27-30th, so lets try and hang in there! If I’m rejected though, I’d like to know asap. If I’m accepted also, though, but if the delay IS due to my application being reviewed for acceptance then I’m fine with hearing by the end of this month, no later though. I check WA everyday with no expectations though, because another applicant from my school itself, has WAY better stats than I do, and I believe he will be accepted over me. I’ve already experienced it at a few other universities. [yes, universities always compare applicants from the same school and even location and choose the best].

@unusually I’m from California! Still haven’t heard back yet though :frowning: My top 2 are UC Berkeley and UMich so I am incredibly anxious this week!! (Berkeley is on Thursday and I suspect Michigan will be on Friday!)

@grimx98 I have very similar stats! Good luck!

@jsharpe101 my SAT was 2080, for GCSE I got 6As and 5 As, AS 3 As & 1 C (oops) & predicted 1 A & 2 As. I also have strong extracurriculars, (eg. I did a work experience at JP Morgan in London) so I personally don’t think grades are everything & when they say they’re holistic, I don’t think they’re lying

@comingfromLDN oh we actually have quite similar stats with you edging me on the grades. My SAT is 2090, got 4As, 5As and B at GCSE and then AABC at AS level and was predicted AAA. My ECs are also quite good (work experience at RBS, President of Econ Society) so hopefully they like the same things they liked in your application as in mine.

@jsharpe101 oh we are v. similar w/ the stats & ECs! i’m sure they will, good luck! I hope you hear soon, fingers crossed for Friday

Hello everyone, does UM send an email when the decisions are out or has everyone just been checking the portal?

@Rubisco228 I got an email telling me I was accepted.

Agh still nothing here for LSA. :confused: I applied Dec 1st because of SMTD (which I got into) but I’m assuming I’ll be waitlisted or rejected from LSA :frowning: I’m from NYC and the standard New Yorkers have to meet is extremely high.

@utkdxb nice! Good luck to you too! :slight_smile:
Can I ask you what are you gonna major in?

@NICE8x I was told that, in the case of UCLA, it was easier to get in as OOS as they want the additional tuition especially now that they’ve curtailed OOS FA. Indeed, at our international school, all 4 students who applied to UCLA were accepted. So it depends on who you speak to. Without going into details, what I can say is that a 3.64 GPA and 1950 on the SAT was enough to be admitted to both.

@utkdxb Just curious, has UM stated that most decisions will be admitted this month? Did this come from Admissions? I only ask because other people have stated “authoritatively” that most places have been filled and that is why there is only a trickle now.

@Rubisco228 Apologies for the several posts…I’m reading these in reverse order! As for acceptances, usually you get an email that begins, “Congratulations XXX–YOU’RE IN!” You subsequently get your financial aid award notice and then a packet in the mail.

Good luck to everyone!

I’ve been reading the comments, and I notice that most people have SAT 2 scores. Do you think my admissions chances would be hurt without them? I did pretty well on my SAT 1 though.

@klingon97 I respectfully disagree because I am OOS for UCLA too and I was rejected with a 3.8 UW GPA (all honors/AP) and a 2190 SAT.

I got into umich but not UCLA*

@NICE8x No offence, but just because you weren’t admitted doesn’t mean it is harder for an OOS student to get into UCLA. Indeed, I had a 3.64 GPA and 1850 SAT and got into UCSD, UCLA and Michigan.

@klingon97 how…?

@klingon97 are u an athlete??
