University of Michigan School of Nursing

File this under FWIW.

I’m sure it varies by HS, but our local public HS rates AP Chem as a little less rigorous in terms of the difficulty of the presented materials, but rated as more homework on a nightly basis than AP Physics.

So, if I were instructing my D, then I’d say take AP Chem, although there’s more homework, the class material is a little easier to understand.

And last year, senior year, my D took AP Chem. IIRC, my kid didn’t like Honors Physics. So, AP Physics was not happening. Currently, a STEM major at UMich though.

@sushiritto thank you for your insight. This is my first “rodeo” so its all very helpful.

@Mimigirl One last thing to consider…I, too, am a UofM grad. FIL was a UofM grad. His dad was a UofM grad. We are OOS and my D17 goes to MSU. She did not apply to UofM. It’s OK to look at other schools.

@bigmacbeth there are other schools? lolol!!! Actually she is interested in other places too- just that mich is her first choice right now. I think being a kid of parents who went there plays a big role but honestly I just want her to go where she will be happiest. Thank you for your help!

@sushiritto @Knowsstuff you 2 seem very well informed so one more question please :). My daughter just got her act back and it was a 31!!! So exciting. based on this score and her last one of a 28 she has a superscore of 32. Does Michigan care about a superscore? I know they say to send your best but she’s worried that since her 28 and a few lower sections it may not work in her favor. I just wonder if Mich really cares about the best sections in reality or if they say that but mainly look at highest one time test. Thanks for any info!

UMich doesn’t “superscore” per se. But they claim in their holistic evaluation process that they will look at subscores from other test dates.

Since the score went up, I’d lean towards sending both.

And a huge Congrats to you D!

@Mimigirl. As stated they don’t superscore but they will look at all scores sent. Sorta like taking a peek at your other scores. They also like to see improvement and the drive to get there. Send both scores. Since your daughter is a junior and OOS I would consider taking the Act one more time. Really hone down on problem area’s. Getting a higher score can help her chances.

THank you @sushiritto and @Knowsstuff. She plans to take it again in the fall and if she doesn’t do better on that one we will send the top 2 scores. Appreciate you both responding!

@Mimigirl a bit late but havent been checking this feed regularly since the exhausting and stressful admissions process is thankfully behind us!

My D was admitted ED to U of M nursing class of 2023. Stats were 32 ACT (with 33 Super score). We did choose to send both because Science score was higher on one test. Lots of ECs, strong essay (IMHO) that made it clear UMich was #1 for her. We are OOS so were worried it was not going to happen but she got a great Christmas present this year and is thrilled to be heading to AA in a few months. Best of luck to your D, happy to help in any way!

@marime32 thank you for your response and congrats to your daughter! I think my daughter will try the act one more time to see if she can improve a bit, she got a 30 on science so it would be great to get that part up. With the michigan gpa calc she has a 3.8 gpa- may I ask your daughter’s gpa? I feel my daughter is borderline with her stats but she has great Ecs and I’m hoping she will get in. Congrats again- I went to Michigan and its a wonderful place- go blue!
