Waitlisted legacy? What were your stats? Also, in state or oos?
when are we expecting Next round?
@nyuuuuuuuuuuggg I am living OOS but my family is from Michigan and both parents graduated from UM. My stats were 1520 SAT, 33 ACT, 4.5 weighted GPA, 3.92 unweighted. I applied to CoE so I know its harder but still disappointed.
So if we want to send LOCI, who and where do we send it to?
OOS. Not legacy. 4.0 GPA, 32 ACT. Really good letters from teachers who I’ve had for 3 years. Really great EC: testified before Congress in part of an internship, interviews on multiple news outlets for internship, president of school, three years in independent science research, captain of multiple sports teams, lots of community service. Do you people think the wording of my decision letter means anything?
did everyone’s decision letter start with them saying they regret to inform u and then later said waitlist
@ihatecollege751 - yes, my daughter almost missed the waitlist part.
Can someone tell me if Mich wants a LOCI or not?
@FallAutumnLeaf call or email admissions. I doubt they will tell you to send one but you can tell us.
are expecting anything Before May 1st? This is long 5 months…My Kids applied EA and still waiting. @amyking. My both kids missed Wait list part!.Thank god went back to portal to screen shot “rejection” and realized they are waitlisted.
So it’s not over till it’s over. There is still a Ross release April 17th.https://michiganross.umich.edu/undergraduate/bba/admissions/admissions-blog/2020/01/03/2020-dates-you-need-know-when-we-are
I bet some Lsa can sneak in there. This is a different year. Otherwise you can hear pretty much anytime after May 1st.
@Knowsstuff and @sushiritto, First of all, thank you both for the work and help you have provided in all of the threads going back to the EA thread in the early fall. It seems like a lifetime ago…Is there a breakdown (from the CC community) of the total RD decisions? i.e. x # of admits of which y were for LSA, etc…? I looked in the RD thread for one, post the wave on the 27th of March and did not see one. If not, no worries and thank you so much.
Thank you for your kind words but I will leave that for my esteemed colleague who does that Stats. Plus there is still a April 17 th round for Ross and others to go, so it’s not over yet. But of course we are a microcosm here on CC. I always wonder how reflective it is of the real world stats?
@Knowsstuff -makes sense. I am curious about that reflection as well. I would leave the statistical estimations of the that to someone much smarter than myself. Intuitively what I do think is reflected here is a population of parents/applicants where U of M is their top choice or very close to it. If someone considers UM as a “safety” they are less likely to be active on the board and ultimately enroll. I don’t know about the comparison between accept/deny here and the “real world” but if I had to guess the percentage of people on the UM CC threads that are accepted will have a much higher yield. Thanks again for all your help. I will update if we hear anything on the WL.
@Thinkbigger - It was buried in the 3rd or 4th paragraph. My daughter read every line of the letter, otherwise, she would have missed it. I think it was intentional - so students had to be extremely careful and read all - but I could be wrong.
Did anyone write anything or provide update to Michigan since there is no place on the portal to do that
now with this Crisis i am expecting super late decisions! and how many of you think that Uni has to reevaluate some potential wait listed candidates as there will be a dramatic decrease in international students and OOS admissions.
Pinned this.
A good friend of mine’s daughter got off the waitlist 3 years ago, Nursing. She went to a private high school and the head of counseling called relentlessly so her name stayed in front of them for when an opening came up, they didn’t need financial aid which they stated and they think helped and they were not lying when they said she would take the offer if given. They don’t know what exactly was said but were told they called almost every day. She had accepted another school but then got off the waitlist in June.
and/or
If you have a teacher or counselor who could further expand on something that you have accomplished that is like “Michigan would be missing out” on a very special person who has exemplified " adjective" or “adjective” and has 100% wanted to go to Michigan since I met them…It needs to be real though, think if you have a teacher or mentor that has truly believed in you, seen you overcome something or achieved something that is unusual and ask them if they can go deeper than what may have already been said.
I would also write a LOCI if it was short but impactful or creative, think out of the box and definitely not something that everyone would say at this point.
Legacy’s I would draw something on your parents/grandparents experience or something deep and meaningful. If you have a sibling there then why is it important for you and/or your family for you to be there. Dig deep.
We were prepared to do all of the above respectfully and my D would have put money down at another school but would have continued to work all of these to keep her name in front of them for a spot.
Good luck and there is always transferring into Michigan if nothing else! But also know you will be amazing anywhere you go, it IS what YOU make of it!!
So much depends on how many more students MI accepted this year versus last because of Covid 19’s effect on yield. We unfortunately do not have that information. USC revealed they accepted 2,000 extra applicants this year. If Michigan did not accept more applicants with knowledge of Covid 19, their waitlist will without a doubt be more active than previous years, but they also may have increased acceptances. We will see.
