Michigan is a great school, but paying the high OOS tuition for online classes is too hard to accept. It’s just not an acceptable value proposition. But if they reduce the tuition to a reasonable amount, then yes, definitely. But that’s obviously not going to happen.
Yep… But it’s one year /semester and your already in for the next year. No need to transfer if someone wishes to. Lots of hard decisions this year.
No one really knows how long the pandemic will go on until everyone is vaccinated. There is no horizon yet in sight and it’s a huge amount of money to spend for a greatly diminished experience.
@Knowsstuff If I was offered a spot, I wouldn’t hesitate to accept! Since I’m currently committed to MSU, the change to UofM would be a small difference in cost for me.
I would definitely go! I am in state and can afford it. I just would stay home for the first semester due to covid and save living expenses if that’s an option.
Great decisions. . @FootballGuy21 MSU is a great school. You might just like it there also. Such a great campus.
Yes. I will go, and luckily my parents can afford it. I really want to grow this next step. May be short-lived if things get worse, but I’m ready to e on campus.
I’m in the same situation as @FootballGuy21 . Personally, I want to major in neuroscience, so even though MSU is a great school, Umich is one of the best schools in the world for this particiular major. I’d go to Umich over MSU in a heartbeat.
I don’t think this is happening. I was briefly hopeful on Friday since everyone was sure we would be notified. Even @knowstuff sounded like he knew it was happening. But clearly it didn’t. I think we were being pranked. Lol. All of us getting all maudlin, telling our plans once we get in. Whether we can pay for it and on and on. Lmao. We have been pranked.
Looks like my DS also gave up. This is insane what a long wait. I hope he transfers to his dream school next year.
yeah. At least trim down the list like some other schools have done. I get that they have to act in their own interest, but still…a little honor pleez
I went along, not to be the only negative voice. I have said end of the month prior. I “think” it was posted somewhere Aug 1st is when they will know their numbers from people accepting or not. This is why I kinda keep saying to get excited about where your going. This year it’s insane, no question about it. Just plan on going where your all going and “if” you get a surprise email that’s then when you have a decision to make. Just don’t buy lots of “bling” at your current school yet ?. Trust me, we want you all going Blue.
FYI - people do here all kinds of things and sometimes their correct. From experience when someone out of the blue with like no posts comes on and says “X”. Usually not true. If someone that has a history on cc says it… It “might” be true.
Hi all! I have a theory the waitlist results will be released today. It’s just a therory, the facts are unclear, and this is all just my speculation, so take it with a grain of salt. I don’t want to claim I know more than I really do.
According to @khan88 the results of the waitlist were supposed to be released on Friday, July 27th, as stated by an admissions counselor. As we obviously all know, that didn’t happen. I was working from 4-10pm Friday, so though I didn’t see it first hand, many people on this forum reporting their enrollment connect portal looking “gray,” or just otherwise inaccessible. I think I know why this happened. To reiterate: this is all just my speculation.
On Friday the 17th, Cloudflare went down. Cloudflare is a service that provides, “DDoS protection and traffic acceleration for all your network infrastructure— whether on-premise, cloud-hosted, or in a hybrid environment.” Basically, this means it provides internet security across networks against hackers. On Friday, Cloudflare’s networks collasped due to human error. It took down much of the internet with it.
You can read about it at the following links:
https://www.theverge.com/2020/7/17/21328993/discord-down-server-outage-issues
https://gizmodo.com/this-is-why-half-the-internet-shut-down-today-1844425114
If Umich uses Cloudflare’s services, this can easily explain why the portals were down on Friday. This would also indicate they were not only down for us, but for Umich counselors as well. According to Umich’s website, their admissions office is open 8-5pm Monday-Friday. If @khan88 was being truthful, then the logical proceeding is that Umich decisions will be released today, seeing as they close on the weekends.
To all reading this: Keep in mind they will only be released today IF what @khan88 said was accurate, IF they planned on releasing their results last Friday, IF they use Cloudflare, and IF that’s what caused the “gray” screens. It is still beyond likely they will not be released today. In other words please don’t come for me when this proves not to be true lol.
@knowstuff we appreciate the good wishes but you shouldn’t repeatedly tell people to check email/spam folders and ask them if they will take the spot or say that they will get a good surprise that night. Your name suggests you know stuff and it is misleading. Maybe you didn’t mean to be but it was a bit over the top for someone who is an self proclaimed UMich to lead everyone on.
@rmumich we have no evidence whatsoever that @khan88 is for real. Feels like we were pranked. Maybe someone having fun who knew cloudflare was having problems. We will know before September. How’s that for a prediction?
@rmumich last year’s waitlist decision was released on a Saturday
So I feel really bad you feel this way. Never my intention to bring more anxiety. Regardless of my name I have no true connection at Michigan. Never said I did but I do know some people there.
So… I just called admissions for lsa which you can do since they want your ID number. The person I talked with was a admission advisor that has helped me in the past. No I won’t reveal her name. Anyway, she wanted to know the rumors going around. She said of course due to covid the decision is later then expected. It would of been by June 30th. She said the decision is coming very soon. Don’t know what means. She said they are going through their numbers to make sure “if” there are any spots left that they truly can offer any. She also said, at most it will be a handful of people.
Anyone here can call also but that is what she said.
Also the checking the spam was because sometimes the emails from Michigan go there.
There is only one poster that was an insider to Michigan and she doesn’t post anymore.?
Good luck.
I just called the admission office and spoke to a counselor. I was informed wait-list results will be out soon in the near future. There was no set date. He also said due to COVID things are uncertain. They are waiting for a final number of students who will be attending. I guess this will make a difference for example my oldest son who is in U of M engineering school has decided to not go back in fall. He had the opportunity to extend his internship, which he did. There might be a lot more students like him. My son told me, he could have made the decision about not taking fall semester as late as mid August. This is all so stressful.
i just called too
she told me they have no idea when they will release them but they will in the very near future
she also said it is because they have to calculate the students who are dropping and other stuff
in the end she asked for my um id and told me i am still on the waitlist
hope this helps
I predict we all will have an answer before October 15th.
I would not encourage students to defer/not go for the Fall. No one knows how long this COVID pandemic will last. I definitely would not put my academic career on hold.
