University of Minnesota Twin Cities--Can I apply for two different dorms?

Hey! I’m a sophomore who has been looking into my options at my preferred college, the University of minnesota. I’m currently torn between two different dorms for specific reasons. Both options are a single as I have a very difficult time with people sleeping in the same room as me (Yes, sleepovers do suck.)

My first and preferred option is at Middlebook because I want to be a part of the LLC community for Spanish learners and speakers. The only problem with this is that there’s maybe two singles I could get into there, so my chances are next to nothing. I guess there’s always an option of getting a bigger room and then putting a huge divider between us, but how would you even get a roommate that’s cool with that? “Oh yeah we can split our room and make it small instead of us sharing a big space, why not?” Doubt it.

My second option is Centennial due to their rooms being really nice and it isn’t much of a party hall, which is good for me because then it’ll be quieter. On top of that I would be around more people who don’t feel the need to always be talking. And lastly, there’s a ton of singles there so if I were to apply there I have a good chance of getting in.

So you see, I have a major dilemma. I really want the middle book one but I’m afraid that I won’t get the single that I want and then get stuck never sleeping because there’s another person in my dorm at all times. So I was wondering if it was possible that I could apply for both dorms then choose which one I would like to have? Otherwise I have to decide on whether Middlebrook is worth the chance of never sleeping and ugh.

When you fill out the housing application, you list 6 different dorm/room combos so you prioritize. The LLC takes priority. Have you started your housing application?

I don’t think I am able to start doing a housing application until I am going to the college the following year, and I still have two years before that happens, so no, I haven’t :frowning:

OK. So you are researching for attendance in 2019? If so, my first tip would be to apply to the school early. As early as possible. Once you get accepted, like the day you get accepted, put in your housing application and deposit. That sets your place in line. This year, it cost $25 to put in a housing application and you did not need to confirm you enrollment in order to fill out a housing application. You place in line will be critical to getting the dorm or room you want. Good luck.

@SpanishMakeup, housing didn’t open until early November, for the 2017/2018 school year. During the fall of your senior year, just keep checking the housing website. It will give updates as to the specific day that housing opens and the day it does, go ahead and apply. You do not have to have an acceptance letter yet to apply for housing. Anyone can. Good luck!
