D24 (OOS) was accepted to college of science and engineering, planning on majoring in CS.
Her stats are: 98% UW GPA/103% WGPA, 1540 SAT, 12 APs, 2 DE math classes (post AP level), decent ECs but nothing too crazy, I think MN asked about NMSF status and she is commended (otherwise she didn’t list it on other apps).
She did receive a scholarship/merit letter in the mail today for 15k a year. It seems to bring tuition down to instate rate so that is nice. Good lu k to your students waiting on acceptances and or scholarships!
My son got his letter today but no mention of scholarship. We’re surprised because he has similar stats to your kid and other state schools have given money.
Oh well, strike UM off the list.
I should have said this, but my daughter was accepted back in September/October and just received the merit/scholarship info today. I wouldn’t count anything out, I think I read that they award merit until March at least.
What is your student planning to major in?
Merit awards come in the physical mail, are separate from the offer of admission, and may arrive MUCH later than the offer of admission.
If you are outside of Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota, and South Dakota, you can also run the NPC to get an estimate of merit aid. This was accurate for my son last year, but it took a while before he actually received the merit award. Net Price Calculator | Office of Admissions
You are right, I just ran the NPC and it very accurately indicated the scholarship she received in the mail.
Does your son attend UMTC?
He ended up at UC Berkeley, but he really liked UMN a lot and it was one of the top schools on his list!
Good luck to all applying this year!
Thank you both @Cs24mt and @tamagotchi
He applied shortly before Nov 1 and received portal acceptance about 10 days later. The snail mail acceptance letter arrived today and I was surprised to see no merit. Glad to see that arrives separately.
He’s majoring in Mechanical Engineering
Yes - note that honors and merit show up seperately and can show up at any time to the end of the process.
I had an (in state) kid apply last year, accepted in October. Honors in December. Scholarship in February.
do we apply to honors separately
Everyone is considered for honors, no separate application required!
Hi Everyone:
Do the University of Minnesota admissions decisions typically come out on Monday evenings? Last year’s thread indicated as much. Thanks.
S24 (OOS) applied on 10/30 and accepted to Carlson on 11/18.
4.54 W/ 3.98 UW
35 ACT
11 AP
Congratulations to your son!
S24 received a merit scholarship for $15K. Being an OOS student, he is curious about the possibility of receiving additional support from the University. Have other OOS students been awarded multiple scholarships?
He is still awaiting a decision on the Honors program.
Did he get it in the mail today? What are his stats?
He received scholarship letter today. OOS/3.9 (UW) 4.6 (W)/Test Optional/Industrial Engineering
When did he apply? Did he receive it on the portal or physical mail?
He applied middle of October and was accepted early November. He received scholarship letter by physical mail after 3 weeks.
Applied Nov 1st, accepted Nov 4th.
Environmental Sciences, Policy, and Management major.
3.848 UW GPA
7 AP / 5 HN
Test optional
Captain of the HS Equestrian Team
4-H member, served as club president for 2 years
Advanced to 4-H national competitions twice

Any chance for merit scholarship with GPA under 3.9?
My S24 received his scholarship info today (less than a week after receiving snail mail admission).
$15K + $10K for NMSF.
A great offer for a really good school. A serious contender now depending on how others turn out,
