University of Miss. vs Miss. State

I am looking for some solid back-up schools. I have looked into Auburn, South Carolina, and Tennessee for out-of-state schools (I live in Georgia) but I'm not sure my family could afford it. UM and MSU are more affordable, and have scholarships that I may get. I plan to major in criminal justice, don't plan to join a fraternity, and want a good education. So between UM and MSU, which do you think would be better?

Thanks for any answers.

*As far as money goes, I plan to join the Army National Guard, the Florida and Mississippi Guard would cover/ or waive my tuition to in-state, that is why I am looking at schools in those states.

my best scores on the SAT were: Reading-520,Math-570,Writing-530. So a 1090 or 1620.

GPA 3.6

major: Criminal Justice

I have raised my GPA even further to a 3.71, currently have mostly A’s and it should go up to around a 3.75 or higher after this semester before UGA reviews my application.

Is this all still the same?

Dumb question…is doing the Army National Guard similar to doing Army ROTC or is it something totally different?

If it’s different, how do you find out which schools the National Guard will pay for?

Do both Miss State and Ole Miss have Criminal Justice?

Yes those updated grades are current.

In the Army, you can join the National Guard or Reserves and do ROTC at the same time to gain extra experience and benefits. It’s what I plan to do.

Guard benefits depend on the State and sometimes the University. So I contacted either the schools’s Veteran’s Affairs Office, or ROTC Department to ask if their state’s National Guard waive’s, or covers out-of-state tuition for it’s members. And thats how I narrowed my choices down. And of course thats only for the out-of-state schools, for in-state schools I don’t have to worry about it obviously.

Yes they both do, Ole Miss seems to have a better program though, with concentrations, from what I saw on the website.

Both schools are pretty Greek, but you really can’t get away from that at SEC schools. I like Ole Miss better, and it sounds like they have the programs you’re looking for.

FWIW, Ole Miss has a new Intelligence Securities Minor (beginning its third year). Admission into the program is competitive. Though it might compliment your major nicely.

Yeah I saw that, but between the 2 I’m still leaning towards State as my main back-up. Mainly because I’m not sure I would enjoy Ole Miss very much since I don’t plan to go Greek, and I have a good chance for scholarships at State. But Ole Miss’s deadline is in July, so if I did change my mind later on I could still apply. Thanks or the info.
