I'm interested in going to this school because of the low tuition and distance. I'm a California resident.

Please tell me the good and the bad about this UC.

And feel free to advice other UC's or state universities please!

Do California residents get special low tuition here? If you get the Western Undergrad rate, then the tuition is about $7200…which is more than a Cal State school.

When you add tuition, room, board, books, travel, misc, the cost of attendance is $25,000.

On the website it says…

*Rising Unemployment, Dropping Home Prices Keep Las Vegas Mired in Recession

The end of the recession in Las Vegas won’t come anytime soon, with job losses mounting and home prices still on the decline. Las Vegas remains among the nation’s ten hardest hit metro areas in regard to unemployment and housing numbers*

I don’t know if that’s an indication that the school would also be having financial difficulties or not.

Certainly, the UCs and CSUs are probably better than UNLV, so if you’re choosing between them, go with a UC or CSU.

You’re a transfer student who’s interested in econ? What is your GPA?

Which UC’s and CSU’s are you interested in?

Depending on what your GPA is, it’s hard to recommend Calif state schools.

Are you at a CC?

Not UNLV… It’s University of Nevada- RENO…

You have the wrong school

The Nevada educational system is terrible and the quality of students is generally poor. I would look elsewhere. There ARE exceptions, of course, but I have a lot of friends who live in the better school districts and they are very negative about education in Nevada. Basic skills are lacking.

oh…well that makes the decision even easier…

The UC and Cal States are much better than UN-Reno.

Why didn’t you answer the other questions…they’re still relevant.

I’m not entirely convinced that the better Nevada high schools are worse than the worse California high schools. I would not make a decision without seeing hard data to support that claim.

In any case, you should absolutely apply to UCs and CalState schools. They can be terrific in-state bargains. If you like UNR, apply there too. Make your decision in the spring, not now.

Not really the issue…the real issue is whether the UCs and Cal States are better than UN-Reno …and they very likely are.

^ Based on what? “The UCs and Cal States” are not all the same. I am not sold on the idea that the lowest Cal States are automatically better than UNR.
