Hi, my name is Asher. I'm an out-of-state student living in a town of 200 people and going to a high school of 600 students (different town, same county). Hardly any students ever go out of state. I'd guess about half to 75% go to the local community college or don't go to college at all. The other 25% go to a state university. It's a rural area. I don't know if any of this stuff matters but thought I'd give a little bit of insight to my personal situation.

So now to the important stuff. I was looking at UNT and I'm sort of interested in applying. I also plan to audition for their music school, but we can leave that aside. I just want to see what my chances are to get into the school and what kind of financial aid/scholarships I could get.

GPA: 4.0 (unweighted) and don't know about weighted, but I'm guessing 4.2 or 4.3.
ACT: 26 (writing: 8 out of 12)
SAT: Haven't taken, probably won't take. Does UNT frown on that?
Honors classes: Algebra 1 & 2, Geometry, English 1, 2, and 4.
AP classes: World History, English 3, Economics, Government (I don't know why Eng. 3 is AP and the others aren't. Kinda strange)
Those are all the APs my high school offers.
Class Rank: Don't know, but certainly in the top 10%. Maybe even top 5%, I don't know.

I've heard different things about the Texas laws for public universities. Can anybody give me some clear info on that stuff? I know that the top 8% of a graduating class can get into the public universities, in state or out of state. But what other laws are there? I've also heard that if you get $1000 worth of scholarship to a Texas public school, than you immediately qualify for in-state tuition there. Is this true? Please give other helpful info on this kind of stuff too. Thanks so much for considering my post!
