University of Oregon in Eugene

Can you tell me about the campus, the life, the academics? This is my first choice but I have never been to the school. I plan on majoring in political science and economics. I would eventually like to go to law school. I am from Los Altos, California so I am out of state. I have a 3.9 uw gpa, 2200 sat, 31 act.

Nice green campus. Not too large and right in town although downtown is a mile or two away. Great sports, good social, good academics. You would be a lock for the Honors college which is very good.

Thanks. I've seen some pictures of the campus and it looks gorgeous.

Any other opinions of this school?

Excuse me, what are you talking about? :/ I have never been to Oregon

For students who like big cities, will they find the campus neighborhood or downtown Eugene too secluded? I know that Portland is only a couple hours away but as freshman you don't get to go to Portland every Friday night.

Eugene is definitely not a big city, so if you are into the big city thing, I would think driving 2+ hours to Portland would be a hassle. But being a college town (small city, really. It's not hicksville), Eugene is great. They love their school, and businesses cater to the students who go there.

MickJag, the campus is VERY pretty, the school is considered Oregon's flagship, the size is just right - not too big and not too small. Consider the weather, we do get a lot of rain and gray days here. But our summers and falls are fantastic. Nice sports facilities. The general feel of the school is liberal, politically.

My bad. My response was supposed to go in a thread about UT, as I'm currently looking at grad school. I am a student at U of O, so you can PM me if you have any questions.

My son is accepted at UOregon. We're from Florida. He wants to be a sports journalist. Good school for that?

They have good sports and a good J school so I think you would be fine and have lots to cover on a national basis. Good training ground.

We visited U. of O. last month and it's a really nice school. Beautiful campus, great town, good academics, awesome sports and school spirit. It's in my top 3 choices as well. I live in San Diego so I worry a little about the rain but I think I'll be okay with it. They have a good virtual tour on their website.
