University of Pittsburgh-Class of 2019 Acceptance

@hailtopitt1787‌ I was sent the request for first quarter/mid year grades earlier in the fall. Pitt received my first quarter grades right before Thanksgiving and I was told that my file was sent back for review. Should I be hearing back soon?

@tinah20, Have you been checking your my.pitt.edu portal to see if the status of your application is complete? If it is, then you should hear in a few weeks. If you have questions about your application that are specific to your file, you can always call our processors and they can look up your account: 412-624-7488.

Got in for Comp Sci, turn up!!!

@Noogler I’m in for Comp Sci too. I think you are the only other admit I’ve seen so far for Comp Sci. Are you OOS?

@univin2015‌ yea dude, you? All the best to you,just so happy this is my second admit:)

yea I’m OOS too. This was my first admit in Nov. Have had several since. Will be a hard decision! Really LOVED Pitt when I visited. Hoping to get some merit to offset cost…

@Noogler best to you too!

@hailtopitt1787 I called the admission office yesterday and I was told that my application is now complete. But on my Pitt portal, it said: " This application is incomplete" without listing what’s incomplete. So is my application complete or not?

@sunrise97, it sometimes takes a little while to update the portal. If you spoke with a processor, they have the most up to date information. If they said your app is complete then you are good to go.

Hey @Noogler and @univin2015‌, I’m going for computer science also.

@kingsman142 Great! Maybe we’ll see each other there. Have you sent in deposit yet? Not sure how many comp sci students but I don’t think the department is huge. Not sure why since Pitt ranks so high! Hail Pitt!!

@univin2015‌ I haven’t sent in my deposit yet. I want to see if I get any scholarships first, but I’ll still most likely end up going to Pitt.

@kingsman142 Yup, waiting too for scholarships too. Good luck!!

@hailtopitt1787‌
I was told by Pitt students to take a schedule without honors classes because graduate schools only really look at GPA with the most priority. They said that Honors classes are very difficult to get A’s in and no extra GPA points are given for them even if you do receive an A. Therefore, the Honors classes can only really bring down people’s GPAs, which doesn’t look great for graduate school. Is their rationale correct?

My daughter took Ochem1 at honors level - which seems like shooting yourself in the foot BUT she had a top prof/medical researcher and a much smaller class size. I am not a college student but I would think smaller class on a difficult subject may have advantages - make you more likely to go to office hours, etc.

@hailtopitt1787‌ If i am not top 5 % (currently around top 7% in junior year), will i not be elligible for merit scholarships?

I got in a few weeks ago in the Swanson school for Chem E.
ACT: 33
GPA weighted: 4.01/4.3
2nd decile of school
6 AP’s by graduation

@Chelsey123‌, I would encourage you to talk with your academic advisor about your plans to go to grad school and your goals for what kind of educational experience you would like to have in your undergraduate career. They will have much better informed advice for you on this subject than anyone in the admissions office. Best of luck!

@anonemuss, Ultimately, eligibility is up to our Scholarship Committee who decides on awards so I cannot speak to your situation specifically. But I will say, scholarship process is fairly competitive, we have many great candidates who apply at Pitt. You can refer to our scholarships page to learn what our scholarship recipients have looked like in the past. https://oafa.pitt.edu/learn-about-aid/academic-scholarships/

Is there a way for the recommendation letters submitted on the undergrad application to transfer to a GAP application? Or will I have to ask my recommenders to submit another copy for the GAP app?

@audrae, which GAP are you interested in?
