@moncomom, Our office is open! Try calling again: 412-624-7488. You could also send us an email at oafa@pitt.edu.

You will have to get in touch with our processors, they can look up your specific account and assist you with tracking down the letter.

@hailtopitt1787 Thanks! I just tried calling again but I just get a message saying something along the lines of “Today is Monday, September 25 and our office is closed. Please call back on Tuesday, September 26.”

@moncomom, Please send an email to oafa@pitt.edu. We will be happy to assist you.

@hailtopitt1787 Will do. Thanks!

@hailtopitt1787 can you advise, if my daughter should send a letter of recommendation to admissions to help with merit consideration? I wasn’t sure if I should advise her to send directly to her admissions counselor or elsewhere. Thanks in advance.

@AmyBeth68, While we appreciate teachers, counselors, and other mentors taking the time to write recommendation letters on your daughter’s behalf, we find letters are beneficial in very limited circumstances (for example: providing context for variance in your overall academic performance).

We recommend that you submit responses to the Short Answer Questions instead and use that space to explain or clarify what most recommenders would cover in a letter. https://oafa.pitt.edu/apply/admissions-process/short-answer-questions/

@hailtopitt1787 Thanks! She already submitted her app and short answers and was accepted a few weeks ago, I had just read in your online FAQ that letters help in merit consideration. But if that is not necessary, one less thing for her to worry about. Thanks again!!

@AmyBeth68, If your daughter is applying for our PA-specific Stamps or Nordenberg Scholarships, then she will be asked to provide the contact information for one recommend (who we will reach out to for a letter).

Could you let me know what FAQ you are referring to, so I can make sure we are talking about that same thing? Thanks!

@hailtopitt1787 I had googled Pitt admissions and this FAQ came up at the top of my search request http://www.part.pitt.edu/faqs.html. I was actually looking for something else but the letter of recommendation caught my eye. Perhaps it’s an older FAQ that still hits on the google search. Under “application process” it mentions letters of recommendation. Thanks for being so responsive! It really helps parents and students nagivate the admissions process.

@AmyBeth68, Yes - that is older! You can refer to the scholarships section of our website for the most up to date info: https://oafa.pitt.edu/financialaid/academic-scholarships/

Did any body receive any acceptances today.?

I’m still hoping for some buttons to change!!

7 weeks since application submitted and no news.

Are you allowed to contact the office of admissions and ask about the status of an application? I applied on August 1st and received nothing so far. I’m pretty sure I won’t be accepted, but I would like to know.

@NursingMan… We did. Our son applied 8/3. He went into Committee Review and kind of sat there. I had called to ask a general question and then I asked the status of his app to the admissions counselor that answered the phone. She answered all of my questions regarding my son’s SAT’s scores and I stated that he would be taking them again. She noted his app and then said his Math scores were low for Business Admin and I asked if they recommend that we switch to Arts and Sciences. She said yes and because they had not reviewed his app yet, it was an easy switch done in 5 mins after my son sent the email. I have found that the Admissions office is there to help up. They were so helpful and accommodating. A few days later we got the email that will wait for his 2nd SAT scores to come in. Give them a call in the am. They are really the best!! Good Luck

@NursingMan, Feel free to give us a call tomorrow. We’d are happy to help: 412-624-7488.

My son got “buttons” today sometime before 1 pm. Hopeful he will get acceptance email by Wednesday. He applied 08-10-17.

My son called last Friday. His counselor was great. Told him that his app had just been looked at on that day (Friday). He told him he should get an email correspondence in the upcoming week (this week). He received “buttons” today. Hope to get the email by Wednesday. I’d call!

Gotta love when the buttons turn

Buttons appeared today too - I have to admit I was checking several times a day for the last 2 weeks!
