DDs timeline: Applied 10/11, buttons changed 10/23, email acceptance 10/25, GAP email invite 10/27, acceptance in the mail 10/30. (She didn’t download the app until 10/23 and the buttons were already changed.)
Congrats to everyone on acceptances! Exciting times!
Forgive me if this has been asked and answered, but my son was accepted into School of Engineering in September and we are waiting to hear about merit aid. I do not believe his acceptance letter said that he was being considered, but I would be surprised if he were not (35 ACT, 1510 SAT, 5s in AP Physics C and Calc BC). Does anyone know when merit award letters will be sent? Is my son less likely to receive one, given the competitive nature of engineering programs? Thanks in advance for any insights.
@finnb I would imagine with those stats your son is definitely in the running for merit. Based on last years threads merit packages were sent beginning in early November. I know of several engineering majors that were awarded merit so I wouldn’t be too worried. Good luck!
Thanks to both. It is hard to assess the “GPA/Unweighted rank” as he attends a small, out of state, private school that does not rank and does not give the same “bumps” for AP courses that many schools do.
@finnb My daughter also goes to a small school that doesn’t rank. Her acceptance letter mentioned both honors college and would be considered for merit. But she applied for Dietrich (pre-med).
@greentea3 Shoot…guess that means my daughter will not be invited to apply for Med Gap. She hasn’t received an email about that (or at least that she has mentioned). For some reason I thought that invitation also came by snail mail?
@DfwMomof2 She didn’t get a letter in the mail for GAP yet. The email she received has a link with a password to apply. Perhaps we got it out of order? I wouldn’t assume anything yet. I am sure it’s a bit of a madhouse over at admissions. Maybe have your D call a regional admissions counselor? (Do they even have those?) Hoping for that invite in her inbox soon!
@DfwMomof2 , daughter received Medicine GAP invite via email. if you are expecting Medicine GAP invite, please check spam/junk folder (just in case).
Subject line with link to medicine GAP application is “University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, Invitation to apply for the Guaranteed Admit Program”…
timeline for Daughter :
applied 9/19, accepted 9/29, GAP invitation on 10/1, GAP application submitted 10/31. Undergraduate acceptance letter about 10/5, accepted to honors college with consideration for merit scholarship. Waiting on merit scholarship notification.
Dietrich school of arts and sciences (Chemistry, pre-med).
35 ACT/1540 SAT, 3.9 UW GPA, NMSF, ECs include volunteering at hospital, shadowing surgeon at local hospitals, and tutoring, other than school clubs.
@momclassof2018 , finally I was able to talk to the person who handles the Medical GAP invitation and he said that my D will receive the invitation within a week.
Hi, how do you know when your application is under review? I’m very confused when people refer to buttons… I don’t know. My application just says complete. I applied 10/24 and took my last ACT on 10/28. I am a hard-working student, despite my 24 ACT score. Applied as an education major. Is there a high chance of me getting rejected? Thanks.
@wcgch2p make sure you send your other ACT score when it comes out, you might even want to call and tell them that you retook it so they can wait to review your file until they receive the score.
My D applied through the Coalition App a few days ago and then we got an email from Pitt suggesting she fill out the SRAR. If her GC sent a transcript, should she still fill out the SRAR?
