@sparkleybarkley Great, thank you so much! How soon did he get the video after the buttons changed?
@namelessnancy about a week. The one thing that held up my sons original application was that he wanted his SAT considered but he never sent in the official one. He thought he could self report it. Anyway that held up his application for a bit. But I say next week you should get your video. Good luck and congrats on your acceptance.
Thanks for the replies! Yeah, I think she’s great. We’ve reached out twice, about a month ago and again a week ago. Got the same reply both times, application is complete, should get an answer in three weeks. Both replies claimed three weeks.
Not sure there’s anything to do now but wait and move on. I’m wondering if she shouldn’t have submitted her SAT scores.
We had a zoom meeting with admissions counselor and other parents of students that had submitted applications. She said reads were taking 4-6 weeks on average for applications with scores and 6-8 weeks without scores at this time. Financial aid released on or about February. The AO said if your child’s application fell outside these time frames, you could contact the admission office. They were very kind and informative and since this is the first year of test optional, it might be taking a bit longer. Good luck H2P.
Thanks @MPT3D, that helps. We’ve been waiting since 8/7, status in peoplesoft says “complete”, and there are no buttons, just says no pending applications. We’ve reached out twice, “all complete, should be answered in three weeks”. That was a month ago and a week ago. Just a little worried.
Forgot to ask, how did you get a Zoom call?
Hi @hailtopitt1787 , and thanks for all the helpful info here.
When I look at https://admissions.pitt.edu/esms I don’t see a rep for Washington county PA. Should I just use the rep for South Alleghany? Been waiting since 8/7, been confirmed everything is complete.
This is very helpful - thank you!
Wow. My daughter applied in late August, and she has been waiting to hear. She has a 4.0 GPA, all APs. As of last week, there was nothing on her portal. Anyone else submit an early application and still waiting?
@ReneeA: did you call the admissions office and see if she is missing something on her application? Which school did she apply to - Swanson, Dietrich? Most folks here who have posted receiving an acceptance heard back within 4 - 6weeks.
My D applied Test Optional on 09/23 but her counsellor did not submit the transcript till 09/25 and then we noticed the buttons change on 10/13 with snail mail arriving 10/17.
@ReneeA / @2021YayCollege , we did. Contacted the office twice, both times we were told all was in, complete, being reviewed, and we should have an answer in 3 weeks. I totally get they’re swamped. Applied to Swanson as soon as early was open. I’ve been trying to follow here to understand if submitting SATs made a difference. We did, 1400, 4.7 and 3.85 weighted and unweighted GPA. Is 1400 too low? It was never intended to be used (more of a practice run very early on), but other testing times were covid-blocked.
@engDad63: If your school uses Naviance then check what the average SAT has been for previous kids getting accepted from your school. That is what we based our decision to submit or not to submit. D’s GPA was way above average while her SAT was sitting at average at the time. This is for the kids admitted from her school per naviance. She has since taken the SAT a second time and improved her scores by almost a 100 points. For her other school applications we have submitted the test scores.
@2021YayCollege that’s good advice, thanks!
My kid got the buttons today! Has anyone ever had the buttons but not been accepted? How sure can we be that an acceptance letter is coming?
@CoffeeMom123: from the past year posts and this years I have not read anyone not get accepted if buttons appeared. Basically the ‘Accept’ button is to pay the enrollment deposit so why would they appear unless they have have admitted you. So Congrats!
Thank you @2021YayCollege that’s great to hear!
Does Pitt give Merit Money?
@Ftttre As a parent who went through this last year with my daughter, yes Pitt does give merit money but I have no idea how they determine who is worthy of it. My daughter was accepted 10 days after submitting her application but received no merit. For context, 1540 SAT one sitting, 4.25 GPA out of 4.3 unweighted, valedictorian, mix of honors and APs, athlete, musician in state wide orchestra, summer job. Two other out of state schools gave her amazing scholarships so it made no sense for her to attend Pitt even though she loved it and Pittsburgh. We were told scholarships are awarded through March so she waited and waited from early October until the middle of March. There was another parent on this forum last year whose son had a 36 ACT and was accepted to MIT and received no merit from Pitt. From reading the prior two year’s threads, it almost appears merit aid is now tied to need and not solely based on merit. For other reading my post, honors decisions came out in the middle of January.
@Topcat123 That’s really unfortunate. Merit should not be tied to need. These kids work so hard for merit, I know my son does because we don’t qualify for financial aid only loans. We really can’t afford to help much which is why he works so hard. Sad.
@sparkleybarkley I hope things will be different this year but that seemed to be what happened the last couple of years. Someone last year posted a link to an article where Pitt actually said they were moving away from merit scholarships. My daughter worked so hard in school to earn the top spot hoping for good scholarships as her goal is to graduate from undergraduate school debt free. We also aren’t financial aid eligible and do have some money to contribute but not $50K for an OOS state school. I hope for the best for your son. My daughter ended up with several options and two excellent financial options but it is hard for them to let go of the one(s) the really loved if it just doesn’t make sense financially. However, my daughter is now in love with the school she chose and couldn’t be happier but letting go of Pitt was very disappointing for her. It all kind of works out but your son will have to be open and flexible through the process. Buckle up, it will be a wild ride for the next six months! Best wishes.
