University of Pittsburgh Class of 2025 Official Discussion Thread

@Noahscott13 & @jellojillo15
It takes a few weeks for them to process your application (3-6weeks) after the email with the portal information is received. Good Luck!

@hailtopitt1787 Can you walk us through the process of the Stamps and Nordenberg Scholarships? Do all students receive the email to apply, or only those who meet certain qualifications? How many students who apply for these scholarships then receive an invitation for the initial interview? How many of those students become semifinalists and are invited to campus? Thank you for helping clarify how this works!

@srwcmw In 2-3 days, you’ll get an e-mail from the Technology Help Desk with portal information (be sure to check the Spam folder too). Best of luck!

Just got a 15k/yr scholarship letter in the mail today!

@persentius23 incredible! you must have some stellar stats to earn such a hefty award. congrats.

What are the buttons that everyone is talking about. When my S logged in it showed application complete.

My daughter got the email encouraging her to apply to these scholarships. I noticed the essay prompt is the same as the honors essay prompt. Was wondering if she would still need to send in the honors application as well if she submits the PA Scholars application?

@jhabriley all PA residents are encouraged to apply for these scholarship opportunities. Students apply and are reviewed for both awards simultaneously. Typically, 700-800 students apply for the awards. About 90 students are selected for pre-screening interviews in Nov./Dec. Then, of those 90, 30 are invited for a final interview in Feb. Ultimately, five are selected for Stamps and five are selected for Nordenberg. Hope this helps!

@hailtopitt1787 since the prompt is the same for the PA Scholars and the honors application can the same essay be used?

@RockyPA same is totally fine!

@highschoolinnj and everyone else- you have to download the Pitt PS mobile app. Once you sign in there will be an Admissions button then an accept/decline, hit that and when you are accepted it will show “the buttons”, before that, when they are still reviewing your application, it will say “you have no pending applications”

@jenric – thank you!! That’s the missing piece of the puzzle!

Hi everyone. Not asking for my S, who did not apply (and would not qualify) for Pitt Honors, but for the D of a friend. Has anyone heard about Honors yet? I have seen the scholarship info coming in, which the friend’s D may or may not receive. D17 got into Honors and received merit, but that was 4 years ago and the Honors program was more of an auto-admit with certain stats “way back then.” FWIW friend’s D just got her acceptance letter last week. Estimating 3.95UW, great ECs with leadership, awards, TO. Thanks!

@momandslp The deadline to apply to Honors is Dec 1 (you don’t have to send in the essay at the time of applying to regular admissions). They send out decisions toward the end of Feb I think.

@vannevka Thanks! Will pass along this helpful info. That is very different from how it was four years ago - my D definitely knew about Honors acceptance by this time senior year.

I am planning to apply soon! I read on this thread that I need to submit official ACT scores for them to be considered, but what about official or self-report for AP exam scores?

@dancer7381

My D uses SRAR to report grades and AP scores. Her school sent the official transcript latter, but before Pitt made the decision.

So, use SRAR to report your grades and AP scores and also request your HS to send transcript to Pitt at the same time.

I’ve been getting an email from Pitt with the subject line “Check the status of your Pitt application” then it says they are processing my application and to Make sure I have everything I need. I check my portal and nothing new. Anyone else have this? Also it comes at 2:46 every day. @hailtopitt1787 do you know anything about this?

Hi @Noahscott13, this issue has been brought to our attention earlier today. I am so sorry about the inconvenience. We are definitely working on it and you should not keep receiving these repetitive emails.

My daughter submitted her honors essay yesterday evening… she had already applied via the Common App and was accepted last month. She had not answered the extra essay at the time for honors (she did answer the other two supplemental questions), as it had a later deadline. When she submitted her essay she included her PeopleSoft ID, but she has not gotten a email confirmation that her honors application was received. Anyone else apply to honors after submitting the general application?
