University of Pittsburgh v Penn State Main

Hi all,
I got into Pitt for arts and sciences intending to declare as CS and Penn State mechanical engineering and I’m having a hard time deciding between the two. I’m not a fan of all the football party drink rah rah school spirit of Penn State but they seem to have a better reputation academically across the board than Pitt.

Pitt I really like the city and the fact that so many great companies have branches there, but I’m worried about it’s rankings as well as the fact that CMU is in the same city and might just blot out any competition from Pitt students looking for jobs/internships/coops.

Anyone have experiences that could help me make a decision? Thanks.

Look at the GPA, SAT and ACT scores of Pitt vs Penn State. Pitt has twice the percentage of students scoring above 30 on the ACT. I think you will find a pretty impressive group of students at Pitt.

In engineering you’re going to find a “pretty impressive group of students” wherever, since ABET accreditation is what matters. If you don’t like the feel of Penn State, then choose Pitt. I didn’t like the feel of Pitt, so I made the opposite decision. Go to the campus you can see yourself at for four years.
