University of Portland Priority Application

I received my acceptance letter yesterday from the University of Portland after having applied there using a Priority Application. I suddenly had a terrible thought that it might be binding, and I'm worried now. Is it binding? I've checked all of my emails about that, and they never said either way. I figured I should be safe and check it out now.

The “Priority” label is just marketing. It makes you feel special and wanted. Voila! It worked b/c you applied.

It’s not anything binding however. If accepted, just be prepared for the hard sell by them to attend. It’s all normal, of course. Good luck to you.

I was already going to apply, this just made it WAY easier and faster, plus it was free. Awesome, thank you so much!

UP is a 3 minute drive from my house!

It’s BEAUTIFUL campus on the bluff, overlooking downtown Portland.

It probably doesn’t affect you, but UP had (repeatedly) refused to put the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (LGBTQ) community on their nondiscrimination statement. If you’re under that umbrella, then I highly recommend that you don’t attend UP.

Other than that, congrats!

Wow, that’s really surprising… Isn’t Portland extremely gay friendly as a whole? I would expect a university to be even more so.

Portland totally is! And I’m sure that in reality, most students are as well. I have a hunch that it’s due to UP’s religious affiliation.

On a related note, there’s a charming little LGBTQ-friendly ELCA Lutheran church within walking distance of UP that I’m an active member of. Just putting that out there for anyone who may be interested! Haha.
