University of Richmond EA decisions

Just got deferred! Was pretty happy actually, since I was expecting a full rejection. I have a 1260 sat, 4.2 gpa, and I’m a pretty strong writer. I also submitted a portfolio for music which may have benefitted me during the admission process. Congrats to everyone who’s gotten accepted & fingers crossed for everyone who’s been deferred! We’re still in the running!!

Parent of a UR freshman here. To all of those freaking out over this decision I’d like to say that whatever the outcome it will be okay. My son did not get into his first choice and was devastated, and now a year later we are all so happy that he didn’t! We really can’t imagine him at his first choice. Makes me wonder if we had any idea what we were doing. (Answer: no.)

Secondly, if you do get in I highly recommend attending the Roadmap pre-orientation program. It is very well-run and surely gave my son the best chance at being happy at UR. The gang he met there is still his core group. (But if you decide to attend BOOK EARLY. A critical component of Roadmap is the mini-class that they will attend, which is a clever way of drawing in kids of like interests. These classes are very small and fill up quickly.) My son took a music mini-class during Roadmap and, though not an interest he intends to study at UR, it is something he loves and found himself surrounded by music nuts just like him. They’ve since formed a music discussion group and he’s loving it. Great counterpoint to his mathematical economics pursuit.

Best of luck to everyone. Go

Mother of international student here. However my D is now a senior at a US high school. Does that mean she still gets her letter via email even though she listed her current school as her mailing address??

Deferred-
3.75 UW/ 3.96 W (out of 4.5 max) ; 1420 SAT. took 4/9 AP’s school offers (going away from AP classes at private school). strong EC’s- 3 varsity sports x 4 years, service, leadership. VA in-state
Hoping for best in RD

D was accepted-UW gpa 4.0, ACT 34, SAT 1490, 8 APs, strong ECs. No mention of merit-hopefully that means good chance for Richmond Scholars invite?

just wanted to follow up. Yes, my S got in. Presidential Scholar awarded. ACT 34, - not sure how to translate the HS GPA - but was over a 99 average in all honors/AP classes. ECs - captain of hockey team, ton of service projects, and other stuff.

@SKYII558 - I’m not sure what it means. All I know is they award only around 25 Richmond scholarships - which is full tuition and board, up to 7 of which are earmarked for students major/minor in Arts. I read somewhere (forgot where) that email notice letting you know you are a finalist will be sent in Feb, with final decisions in March.

To be honest, since Richmond and Presidential Scholars are both merit based, it would be weird for a Richmond finalist (who doesn’t get the Richond scholarship) to not be then given a presidential scholarship. Pray for the email next month.

Deferred. 1220 SAT, 3.66 gpa.

Deferred. 1280 SAT, 3.7 GPA. Tons of ECs and strong essays. Hoping for the best in RD.

My daughter got deferred with a 1520 (790 math 730 reading), 5.2 weighted gpa (3.95 uw) at arguably the hardest and most challenging HS in the country, 4APs, stellar references, and enough ECs that she shouldn’t have got deferred. Her school is a 2 year boarding school for STEM, and it’s basically college 2 years early. She’s gotten one B there in 2 years, and I know that UR is aware of how challenging it is there, what with leaving home at 16 and all. I still can’t believe it, and neither can she, it was in her top 2. She might still get in, but the chance of becoming a Richmond Scholar is pretty much out the window, and that’s pretty much the only way she would’ve been able to go due to finances being what they are. So disappointing.

Daughter was accepted. 4.3 gpa, 1440 SAT from very rigorous MD prep school (also basically a college environment). 6 APs, lots of honors courses, 2 sports, interesting activities, good essays and recs.

Scratching my head about ShredderRob’s daugther above - those are Ivy League stats!

Accepted, but not yet committed.

My GPA isn’t on a 4.0 scale, but I have a 97.03W and 95.45UW.

I have a 33 composite and a 34 super-scored on the ACT. I didn’t take the SAT.

I’m a member of National Honors Society, Math Honors Society, Spanish Honors Society, Italian Honors Society, French Honors Society, treasurer of Educators Rising, and a member of Spanish/French/Italian Club.

Took AP Lang (4 on exam), taking AP French, AP Spanish, and IB Psych SL which is brand-new to my school. Year ahead in both math and science, two independent studies (College Level French and Independent English), have essentially skipped multiple levels of French and Italian by doubling up/placing into them.

Excellent Common App essay and really strong recommendations.

I plan to study Foreign Language Education and apply for the teacher certification program.

@ShredderRob – Wow – did she show interest? I wonder if you called and poked around a bit - if she is very interested - you might get some movement. Only thing I can guess, is if they really felt she was highly unlikely to attend bc with her stats she will likely get her into more selective schools. Hugs.

Does Richmond not reject early action?

The way they put it, “Students whose applications were declined are students that the committee felt would simply not be competitive in Regular Decision.” UR may be deferring some people with the hope that their submitted applications lack something that those students may be able to express upon revision. On the other hand, they may be playing it safe with this being their first EA offering.

@ShredderRob All I can say is wow, and I’m sorry. Are you from VA, or the SouthEast? Or did one or more from your D’s school already get in through ED or because of sports? These unfortunately can knock you out of the box, even with stellar grades. colleges want to diversify- geographically speaking.

Been there with my D 2 yrs ago. She got deferred from a Northeast school, and then in reg admission accepted and told she was in the top 5% of all applicants. A lot from my area apply to the school, and she had another girl from her school admitted for sports. Unfortunately it happens.

Accepted. 4.32W, 35 ACT, from MA. No mention of merit.

Has anyone heard anything about EA acceptance rate?
Or ED statistics?
Financial aid?
