how many do you guys think go in via the early decisions program at UR?

I am guessing about half... If it is so, then UR's ranking will definately increase to top 30

yeah, I hear we have a new president too....from washu

I thought a new President was bad when I first saw it but then I looked at all the previous presidents and they were all about 10 year terms and Jackson started in '94...

Same, I am kind of scared that the new pres. May not be either a.) Up to par with jackson as jackson brought the university up in the rankings and overall rep a great deal in the last ten years
B.) The new pres will take a year or two to get the handle of the ropes, so it might not be the most solid first couple of years for him, making it not solid for the university and us. Kind of hard to explain

I hope he will be a good guy though, and I'm sure hell have good stuff to contribute.

what are all of your stats? I'm hoping to get in RD..

I had:
3.88 Weighted GPA
31 ACT
Top 25% (But Rochester doesn't care about class rank :))
Very tough schedule (9 APs in total including: Physics B, Physics C, Calc AB, Calc BC, Spanish Lang.)
President of Marching Band and Honors Wind Ensemble
Work about 30 Hours a Week

My Stats: 95.57 GPA, 1350 SAT, all APs and honors, Yearbook Editor and lots of community service

Congrats to UR class of 2009. I'm a mom of class of 08 member. I'd be happy to answer any questions tonight. My son thinks that UR is great, by the way. He really loves it there.

What is his major and what are his clusters?
How does he like it(refering to previous q)?

Doesn't know what his major is, but he's decided to minor in Music. The cluster system was a bit hard for me to understand, but he seems to know exactly what it's all about. The first semester he did Honors Calculus (one of the Quest classes), the CAS (the required writing class) course, Physics of Music, and Linguistics. In h.s. he did AP Calc. BC and found this quest caluculus to be extremely challenging. The good news is that the second quest Calculus the term in the same cluster is now much easier for him.
He lives in Sue B. and loves it there. As expected, they spend a lot of time in each other's rooms. It seems the students work hard, and actually do help each other with home work, etc. Everyone's pretty smart, but there doesn't seem to be a cutthroat atmosphere as I've heard in other schools. All in all, he's very glad to have chosen UR over the LAC's he was accepted into.
The class of 2009 should be no exception to the class of 2008, except I think that admissions has gotten tougher....not just academically. When I went to the 'Visit back" day with son, Mr. Green mentioned that they were getting tougher in admissions in that they were looking for students who they know would really "fit" into the UR community...hence the reason personal interviews would play an increasingly important role in admissions.

Yeah - archdelux- 3.3 gpa (i go to a very tough high school), 1360 SAT, acc. Ap courses...only reason i got in (as my gpa wasnt that great even tho i'm taking harder classes and sats are average for the school) was because of my extra curricular activities. Interned as a Lab Assistant at a Pharmacology lab in NYU, worked in a reputable position with technology and the compsci at Princeton U, and am pres/vp of 2 clubs, and a member of school newspaper, stucounsel, and u know that whole extracurric stuff. I strong urge you ( ig uess its too late now) to have an essay that reflects your personality, because i think thats what the admissions is looking for. They are looking to see if you will fit in, besides your grades/sat, as a person, that you have potential, and that you understand that the systems at UR (such as clusters, the oppurtunities available) are compatible with your needs.
