University of Rochester Class of 2021 Early Decision Thread

Hey CC members! I am one of the many students who are applying Early Decision to University of Rochester. I hope fellow Rochester ED students can talk about UR and to meet future classmates! I am very excited to apply and I wish you all the best in getting accepted!

Hello! I submitted my ED application a few days ago - it moved to step 2 on MyROC today and I’m absolutely terrified, but also kind of excited.

haha I think the moment you’re on step 2, its time to just let go. Did you interview?

yeah, i interviewed off-campus with an alumnus.

int student?

@corin0 What are the news, ive heard the ED competition this year will be like nothing ever seen before

@muu2000 nope, i’m a domestic student! just couldn’t get up to rochester on a weekday to interview, since i live about six hours away.
i’m sure the competition is going to be ridiculous, but at least it can’t be as bad as regular decision.

Where did you hear that Rochester ED will be ridiculously competitive?

its the trends and students involved with the admissions committee expect high SATs, GPAs, and ECs like nothing ever seen before

Did you hear it from the admissions committee directly or are you assuming? No assumptions!

I’m applying Early Decision and I’m so nervous! Rochester is truly my dream school, and I’m so scared about getting in because my stats are mostly average :frowning:

Its no assumption, Ive heard it from the people in admissions comittee too. They expect it to be the next ivy in a few years lol. You get what they meant.

Plus guys sending a 1340/1600 SAT1, is it worth it? (engineering)

Rochester values GPA and rigor of curriculum much more than test scores. It even has a test-flexible policy! If you have above average GPA, then you should apply!

just being realistic, my school gpa is 3.9, plus applying for engineering with aid…

@Roch2302 so can we apply without sending SAT and just expected Alevels score and Official olevels?

to be fair, admissions counselors are trying to sell people on the school, especially people who may apply ED, so they’re liable to exaggerate a little. yes, UR is definitely competitive, and only getting moreso as time passes, but “ivy” is just a buzzword in my opinion. i wouldn’t put too much stock into it.

@dolphonetics what was your SAT?
@corin0 the theory seems satisfying

can anyone post last years’ ED statistics, like applied to accepted ratio etc

@muu2000 i don’t know if this is from last year, but it looks like the acceptance rate for ED is actually slightly higher than that of RD. 328 applicants were accepted out of 801 - that’s about 41% to the overall 34%
