University of Scranton

Opinions please

It is an okay school, but it is in a very economically depressed area. Not sure what your grades and scores are, but if you can get in here, you should also check out some more highly regarded Catholic schools in urban areas such as Siena (Albany), Catholic U, Manhattan, San Francisco, Santa Clara, Dallas and Santa Clara. Good Luck, Londondad.

I don’t think it’s anymore economically depressed then other city’s of it’s size. The campus is very attractive and I’ve heard it’s computer programs are good.

Strong pre-professional reputation. Draws students mostly from PA, NY and NJ.

My daughter loves living in Scranton (attends Marywood). U Scranton is where the Marywood kids go to drink, but the school has a good academic reputation as well.

The University has been undergoing a major building boom. Some of the neighborhoods nearby are not improving. There are three hospitals within walking distance, which is a plus for its nursing programs.

I could be wrong but I think it is in that book “Colleges that Change Lives”. We stopped to see it on our way home from Penn State. It has beautiful buildings but my D wasn’t interested due to the small size (compared to the larger schools she was looking at).

There is a lot of information posted on the University of Scranton thread. You should check there for more comments.

My daughter is a rising sophomore in the Nursing Department, and has had a great experience to date. We are very impressed with the school, and the City of Scranton has a lot of hidden gems once you get beyond the heresay. There is a lot to do there, and the school also makes an effort to provide many recreational and cultural opportunities.

D goes back next Sunday, and can not wait. To me, that’s a great sign. :)

…of course, if you want to be in the office supply business, Scranton students may get internships at Dunder Mifflin.

^^ Not sure you can do that;), but you can certainly eat at Cooper’s, Farley’s or Poor Richard’s, stay at the Radisson, go to Steamtown Mall or take the Lackawanna County Coal Mine Tour which are all real :).

Don’t know much about it, but my favorite teacher from high school went there.

Check out sites like students r e v i e w and college p r o w l e r, they’re very helpful, informative, and usually pretty objective it seems.

I agree, Kitty56 - it’s worth going to visit U. Scranton or any of the half million other schools in Scranton just to eat at Coopers!
