Do you think more scholasarships will be released as people decline acceptance? I agree sending scores seems to have hurt us.

Yes. $40,000 OSS test optional

Wow. The friend had no honors or AP and went TO and got accepted?! Was there something else exceptional about them?

Makes me wish we didnā€™t submit scores! Congratulations!!

Yup, I was surprised.

The only thing of interest is her sibling goes to UofSC. So, maybe that helped with admission, but how did she get offered a $40k scholarship without honors/APs and a GPA under 3.6? Do they offer big scholarships to underqualified applicants of siblings? :woman_shrugging:t3:

My daughter also applied for Marine Science however was deferred - do you mind posting her stats?

Sorry ā€“ wgpa is actually 5.1. Need to focus!

Wondering if itā€™s worth emailing the Financial Aid office for clarity? It seems bizarre that aid isnā€™t even mentioned in the acceptance letter.

DD is OOS + test optional
3.8 unweighted
varsity captain
Good ECs
Travel sports club for 8 years

Weā€™re thrilled about her acceptance, but confused about aid. Based on reading the comments above, it seems like the criteria is all over the place. I canā€™t decide if it helps or hurts our cause to send an email.

While I am so happy for all that have been accepted and some have some extraordinary stats and it is well deserved as hard work is paying off, there are others that have been accepted with average and slightly above or below average stats. I am wondering what the protocol was for acceptance and/or deferral. It seems they are all over the place. I am confused and just trying to understand. Also wondering if we have any chance at all come March or if we should just assume the UofSC ship has sailed.

Accepted OOS with $86,000 scholarship. Pre-Intl business, 3.92 UW, 4.5W, 31 ACT. Find it interesting to figure out whether it was a good thing to turn in scores or not.

This is what I am talking about - it makes no sense who is being admitted and who is being deferred. At first I thought if you were test optional youā€™d be deferred, but that does not seem to be the case here. This whole process with UofSC is so frustrating. I remember my S19 going through the same thing when he applied.

I think Iā€™m going to call or email. At this point, theyā€™re accepted, so it canā€™t hurt. While itā€™s not okay for parents to email about applications or admissions, I think it should be okay for us to email about aid. After all, we are the ones paying for it. Our kids couldnā€™t pay for it if they wanted to, thanks to the government basing their aid on our assets and income LOL. I agree that it seems to be all over the place.

That is crazy! Deferred from UofSC with those stats! Which majors did they apply for? I know they are sometimes looking to admit more of one gender to specific majors, i.e. girls to engineering, boys to nursing, etc. Maybe thatā€™s why? Still, I am shocked that your son was deferred.
